Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

I enjoyed how much this book made me think about how hope works. It also gave an unflinching look into suicidal ideation. It kept me guessing as to what would happen and didn't follow a predictable path.

Please Don't Hate on Luke and Jill
Revisado: 01-22-16
These are normally my favorite series to listen to. I love how they work the male and female voices back and forth, and Phil's deep, sexy growl is to die for. That's why I was a little confused when I noticed such a low rating the day it came out. Then I saw the switch in narrators. After looking at some reviews, I felt bad for Luke and Jill and wondered why people said they were horrible.
I absolutely adore Luke Daniels. He is one of my voice crushes. He doesn't have the same darkly masculine vocal power that Phil has, but after getting used to the change, I still enjoyed the book (admittedly, it took a little while, and I had a small tantrum at missing Phil's eargasmic voice). Luke's Shazam made me laugh each time, and I didn't think he made the characters sound old. I thought Jill did an admirable job as well. I also enjoyed how they kept the female voices to Jill and the male voices to Luke, sticking with the same style as they had with Phil and Natalie.
As for the story, I felt like there were some slow points and found my mind wandering away, but overall, it was still a fun ride, and there were a couple big emotional punches that made me hungry for the next book.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

A crazy, messed up ride, in a good way
Revisado: 08-16-13
For me, Gone Girl started out slow. I found my mind drifting and would realize that I hadn't been paying attention for awhile. I thought the writing was almost overdone, or like it was trying too hard, that it was being too witty, and then little by little, the book drew in my interest. I no longer found the writing overdone. It felt engaging and full of texture. I sat at the edge of my seat, chewing on my nails, thinking I knew the characters and then realizing that I didn't. It happened again and again. I'd find excuses to listen when I normally wouldn't because I had to figure them out. The book drove me to know what was truly going on, and whenever I felt like I had a firm footing, it tore the carpet from underneath me. I look for books I can't put down, and this was one of them.
I loved the narrators, and I am insanely picky on narrators. They both did a superb job and left nothing lacking. They portrayed these horrible, ruined, two-faced people quite beautifully.
I noticed some complaints that people had. One was that the characters were so horrible. I found that strangely thrilling, to see how depraved they could be. When I thought they couldn't get worse, they did, and it pulled me more into the story. I was able to suspend my disbelief and happily delve into their demented lives.
A second complaint was the ending. I won't try to ruin anything, but the ending was a sweet awfulness, the kind of ending that makes you want to tear your hair out, and I liked that. Sometimes you need a book to kick you in the kidney and leave you a frustrated mess because it means that, for awhile, you lived in that world and that you cared enough to be angry at it turning out a way that you didn't want.
Overall, I loved it and now face the daunting task of trying to spend my credits on something just as good.

Historia
Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands - from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg - gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship - and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.

Funny, sexy, and fun!
Revisado: 09-10-12
Would you listen to The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires again? Why?
Yes! I made my fiance get this, and I have re-listened to parts of it with him and still enjoy hearing the story over again. It's humorous moments make me laugh even after listening to it a second time.
Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I did after reading this book, and she does equally well for both performances. I love the different voices she uses for her characters, and her normal speaking voice isn't grating, annoying, or too dry like a couple others that I've come across. She is expressive and down to earth.
Any additional comments?
I own a pet care company, and I am on the road or out walking animals all the time, and I was looking for something that would keep my attention and be positive and fun. This fit the bill! I laughed out loud constantly and loved the suspense and fun banter and tension between the two main characters.
