Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

I think I'll give this another listen. it is performed documentary style and i wish I could have watched it! sometimes i can't imagine the ego people have, but also the ego they need, to complete a task such as calculating the path and process to the moon.

lots of good content and it was fun to listen to a book that I grew up seeing in my parent's library. I didn't agree with some of the theology about becoming a god in the 4th chapter, but it had some great points that I identified with overall.

the section on listening would be good guidelines for ANY relationship. mostly, as I was listening I wondered at what point during marriage or other serious relationship does enmeshment occur and we see our partner as an extension of yourself rather than an individual. this book is a great reminder and practical guide on how to maintain or restore individuality among couples. I'll be listening to it many times over because it is both a quick, interesting read and because there is something new to learn every time.
