Pretty good
Revisado: 08-08-20
I was given a free copy in return for my honest review.
I didn't care for the narrator, so it took a while to get into the book, but once I did, I enjoyed it. There wasn't a mystery as such, but the story of a woman trying to save her children from a violent, abusive husband. The writing was convincing enough that at times I wanted to stop listening because of what the woman was going through. I told myself that everything must surely work out in the end, I just needed to get there.
I would listen to another title by the author, but not the same narrator.

Other books rock, this only angers
Revisado: 08-08-20
I want to start off by saying that I've really enjoyed the rest of this series, some more than others. But this one....no. I was rooting for Cresseda to NOT get the guy, because she deserved so much better than the back-stabbing, betraying Noah. Yes, most of the time one the MC does something stupid, the couple fights, makes up, and ta-da! HAE. But some things just can't be forgiven, I don't care what amends or apologies are made. Once again, she deserves so much better.
Aside from the story, the writing itself is as good as the rest of the series, and the performance was really good, too. It's just the story arc that leaves me wanting. It's a shame, because the idea of a treasure hunt is actually really neat.

Fun but predictable
Revisado: 07-01-20
I mostly wanted to listen to this because of Catherine McKenzie's Fractured, whose main character was Julie, writer of The Murder Game. I liked the idea of a tie-in. Ultimately, I prefer McKenzie's other works more.
While the ending wasn't a huge surprise, it was still interesting to listen to how the club implemented their plan.
The narration was pretty good, with distinct voices. The one thing that drove me a little crazy was the huge time gap between one chapter and the next. I kept checking my player to see if it had stopped/frozen.

My Ears Are Bleeding
Revisado: 07-17-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The book itself was mediocre, more or less what I thought it would be. A little romance, a lot of sex. Some mindless entertainment to occupy me at work. I wouldn't recommend it with the narration it has, though.
Would you be willing to try another book from Anne Marsh? Why or why not?
I bought this as a deal, and I prefer a little more romance with the story, instead of so many sex scenes.
How could the performance have been better?
I don't usually review books, but this was hands-down the worse narration I've ever heard. The male voice was alright, nothing spectacular, but the female voice grated on my very last nerve. Looking at the other reviewers' ratings, I can't believe we listened to the same book. The southern accent may have been point-on, I don't know, but she sounded like she was trying too hard to sound sultry, always a half-whisper. The scratchiness of her voice made me think of an old woman. She reminded me of Sookie Stackhouse's grandmother in True Blood. It may have come across as a better book if my ears weren't bleeding so hard from the narration. I actually liked her rendition of the male voice better than the females.
Was Wolf's Heart worth the listening time?
No.

Great book with superb narration
Revisado: 12-01-16
What did you love best about Burying the Honeysuckle Girls?
The book didn't fit into one particular category. There was some romance, drama, mystery, and literary fiction.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I would probably have to say Gin. Without spoilers, I can say that for the times she was living in, she did what she could under the circumstances, instead of just completely bowing down to the men in her life.
What does Kate Orsini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
While I enjoyed the story itself, Kate Orsini's narration made it all come alive for me. I've listened to over 500 books, and she's one of my favorite voices so far. I could hear the smile in her voice in some parts. She was very expressive, and each character was very distinct.
Any additional comments?
I don't usually review books, but this one grabbed me from the beginning. I listen exclusively at work, and the day went by quickly because I was so engrossed. This doesn't happen very often, so I wanted to take the time to review it. I would definitely recommend this book.

Enthralling Listen!
Revisado: 08-12-16
Where does Baggage rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This has been one of my favorite audiobooks, as evidenced by the fact that I've never felt moved to write a review before.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Even when I thought I had everything figured out, I was wrong. I liked how it managed to touch on several different genres. There was the mystery/thriller aspect, but also drama and a little bit of (dark) comedy as well.
What does Amy McFadden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She gave every character a very distinct voice.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely! I only listen to audiobooks while I'm at work, and the day just flew by. I was disappointed when my work day was over, because I wasn't finished with the book, and wouldn't be able to listen again until the next day.
Any additional comments?
I had previously listened to Flowertown by the author, and so took a chance on Baggage. I'm so glad I did! I think I actually enjoyed it more. The quirky characters and their backstories made it so much more than just a mystery. I'd recommend it to anyone.
