Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

Great! But.....
Revisado: 01-25-24
Classic story, But it's a bit uneven, and I found the sex scenes boring and a bit annoying. Narration is mainly fine.

Fair to midling
Revisado: 11-10-23
Strong narrator. Decent, if predictable story. The female character in the book lacked verisimilitude. If this had been written by an unknown author it wouldn’t sell much.

Historia
Growing up a 90-pound weakling tormented by bullies in the schoolyards of Kansas, young Matthew Polly dreamed of one day journeying to the Shaolin Temple in China to become the toughest fighter in the world, like Caine in his favorite 1970s TV series, Kung Fu. While in college, Matthew decided the time had come to pursue this quixotic dream before it was too late. Much to the dismay of his parents, he dropped out of Princeton to spend two years training with the legendary sect of monks who invented kung fu and Zen Buddhism.

A surprisingly good listen!
Revisado: 03-31-23
A funny, engaging story with just enough action to spice it up. It's also gives good insight into the pre-boom China and its customs. I'm not into testosterone fests, nor am I into pretentious spiritual quests. This story "kept it real", and I mean that in the best way.

I agree with most of what he has to say, but....
Revisado: 04-28-22
The author's style is a bit breezy for my taste. I would have liked a more linear, point-by-point presentation of the material. That said, I'm glad that prominent people are starting to raise their voices against the pernicious nonsense that Woke ideology is so full of.

Beautiful, fearless, tormented, at 45 she has lived a life of lovers and adventures. Now, Dalva begins a journey that will take her back to the bosom of her family, to the half-Sioux lover of her youth, and to a pioneering great-grandfather whose journals recount the bloody annihilation of the Plains Indians.

Great story, OK narration
Revisado: 11-23-21
This has long been one of my favorite novels. It hasn't aged as well as I might have hoped - all the horn-dog stuff gets tiresome, but it's still a wonderful tale on many levels.
Dalva's 1st person narration falls a little short. It's not terrible, but Dalva's a bad-ass, and the narrator is merely good.
A worthwhile listen to be sure.

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Revisado: 11-02-21
Great narration and fascinating story from a very important man. My only criticism is that Malcolm beats his points into the ground - yes I know that the white devils have been terrible to the black Americans - you've been telling me that for the last several hours...

A very entertaining listen
Revisado: 01-29-21
It's kinda Bubba Gump meets Grapes of Wrath meets Call of the Wild. Very entertaining, from the endearing main character to the fight scenes to the morality play. At times it's a little hokey by modern standards (The Indians said "How") but that's part of the charm. It's a breath of fresh air in our crazy modern world.
