Historia
Devotion tells the inspirational story of the U.S. Navy’s most famous aviation duo, Lieutenant Tom Hudner and Ensign Jesse Brown, and the Marines they fought to defend. A white New Englander from the country-club scene, Tom passed up Harvard to fly fighters for his country. An African American sharecropper’s son from Mississippi, Jesse became the navy’s first Black carrier pilot, defending a nation that wouldn’t even serve him in a bar.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Authentic and Captivating
Revisado: 12-13-20
JD’s candor about his past and analysis of the complexity of the situation is amazing. I laughed, cried, and learned so much from this book.
Thank you JD for sharing your story!
You’ve made me remember my Scotch-Irish grandparents as you captured our people exactly how they are, rough and loving.

Historia
How did a New York-born, Jewish, former-atheist novelist and screenwriter - a winner of multiple Edgar Awards, whose books became films with Clint Eastwood and Michael Douglas - find himself at the age of 50 being baptized and confessing Jesus as Lord? That's a tale worth telling.

Everytime I listen to this book to light shines from it. I agree with Klavan's wife; this is the greatest book he's ever written.

Historia
In 1962, Don and Carol Richardson risked their lives to share the gospel with the Sawi people of New Guinea. Peace Child tells their unforgettable story of living among these headhunters and cannibals who valued treachery through fattening victims with friendship before the slaughter. God gave Don and Carol the key to the Sawi hearts via a redemptive analogy from their own mythology.

Terrifying and then beautiful
Revisado: 06-10-19
With a very graphic and distributing introduction I was not sure if I could finish something so horrifying. Then Don and his family come into the picture. What a beautiful transformation in a savage world.

Historia
Katherine Paterson, author of Newbery Medal winners Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved, again displays her storytelling talent in this powerful novel. Eleven-year-old Angel must play the adult when she and her brother are abandoned at their great-grandmother’s house and the old lady proves incapable of caring for them. An emotional tale, this drama teaches the age-old lesson that every person can stand tall when the world lets them down.

Historia
For those who are weary of Christian cliché and compromise crowding out what was supposed to be good news, The Naked Gospel offers the fresh take on the story of Jesus you've been waiting for. As a university student, Andrew Farley found himself physically and emotionally addicted to street evangelism and Bible study. Yet despite his fervid behavior, he knew something was missing. That something was an understanding of the gospel that is stripped of the churchy jargon and hypocrisies of the modern church.

Not the Gospel
Revisado: 07-12-16
The gospel presented in this and I assume other works by Andrew Farley is not accurate. It completely leaves out the aspect and importance of faith. In attempt to boil down and simplify the gospel, it completely ignores faith. As Hebrews 11 describes all those past and present have been saved by faith. This book also informs

Historia
President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life. Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America’s 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life. In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings listeners inside the Texas Governor’s Mansion on the night of the contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America’s most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor...

Honest and uplifting
Revisado: 01-01-15
The humility and honesty of each chapter is incredible. Unlike most or all history books, this honest account admits mistakes and boasts of accomplishments when necessary. As someone who was too young to remember the tabloids and news phrases of the early 2000s, I really appreciate that this presidency is not idealized in the book. Rather it is described in a way that recognizes hind-sight is 20:20, but decisions have to be made in the moment, for better or worse. Really enjoyed it!
