Started good, the later books were just okay
Revisado: 02-22-25
I don’t remember the exact numbers, but the first 5 or 6 books were pretty good. Then they started to gradually get worse. At one point it completely shifts to a different group back at the start of everything.
I’m on books 10, and book 9 sucked, 10 isn’t seeming much better. I’ll stick it out and listen to all of them anyway. Just wish the books kept building the original story instead of this cannibalism thing the past couple have been about.

Good book bad narration
Revisado: 11-01-24
If I wasn’t invested in the series I wouldn’t have finished this one. The content of the book is entertaining. The narrator is difficult to listen to. Then in spots throughout there’s a very faint echo that I can probably only hear because I listen with earbuds. Besides that there is an occasional odd noise that should have been caught in post production. Couple that with a narrator that slurs a bit and has some odd pronunciations, and that’s why I give this 1 star in performance.

A good deal
Revisado: 08-17-24
So these box sets are a good deal. I would caution that if listened to back to back to back they do get a bit repetitive. Same themes different situations in most. They’re all advancing a story though, and the overall story is good, it’s just that a lot of the action parts of the stories eventually sound the same. I would suggest maybe listening to one box set per month or two to keep it fresh.
On a side note, these books are fairly simple in their writing. I don’t think that takes away from it that much. The best comparison I could think of is it’s written like a video game. Back story and fluff followed by a level filled with action, rinse repeat.

Good story okay narration

I get that the book might say someone whispered, but I still would like to be able to hear what the character says without having to go back and turn up the volume. The story was pretty good though.

Good story, bad production
Revisado: 05-24-24
The older narrator is dry. The younger is okay. Why there’s two of them, who knows? Really the problem is how often they either added or edited something later in production. More often than any other audiobook I’ve listened to, there will be a sentence or a line that the sound is completely different. Like it was added or changed after the bulk of the book was done. Once or twice is no big deal to me, but in one chapter alone it happened at least 4 times.
Overall I like the content. I was going to try and binge it before it left the free catalog, but I can’t bring myself to listen that much in a short time.

Historia
A former Delta Force commander, Brad Taylor proves with this breathtaking debut thriller that Vince Flynn and Brad Thor have company. A collection of top operatives, the Taskforce was commissioned by the highest levels of government, kept secret from the media and even Congress. The best of the Taskforce bunch, Pike Logan knows the greatest threat to American security is one or two idealogues. Unfortunately for them, they’ve just crossed Pike’s path.

The book was pretty good
Revisado: 05-19-24
The content of the book was good. Kept me interested and was a pretty good story. I wasn’t a big fan of the two different narrators thing. It was kind of distracting and was confusing at some times.

Historia
His name wasn’t Chester Nez. That was the English name he was assigned in kindergarten. And in boarding school at Fort Defiance, he was punished for speaking his native language, as the teachers sought to rid him of his culture and traditions. But discrimination didn’t stop Chester from answering the call to defend his country after Pearl Harbor, for the Navajo have always been warriors, and his upbringing on a New Mexico reservation gave him the strength to excel as a marine. This is the first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of WWII.

Good and informative
Revisado: 09-09-23
I would estimate the book is 2/3 military career and 1/3 before and after. The content was interesting to me.
Narration was pretty good. I had to knock it a little though. With about 1 hour and 20 minutes left the publisher left a message about changing to the next CD in. It wouldn’t be hard for them to edit it out, but its there and a bit jarring.

Not good
Revisado: 04-21-23
Got it on a two for one so it wasn’t worth it to return it. The writing is below average, and the narration, at least to me, was just bad. The last hour or so was okay, but that’s about all the good I can say about it.

I enjoyed listening to this. I think having the author narrate helped a ton. It sounded less like her reading and more like her just speaking which made the complex subject easier to take in and listen to.
