Loved the premise, the narrative, the reader, the ending! Hecht is masterful and intelligent push-the-envelope storyteller!

Nothing. Wilhelm is an excellent writer. She kept me in suspense throughout, and I was impressed with the twists in the story about the dangerous mindbending experiments.

As stated above, chapters repeated themselves, almost exactly.
More data to reinforce his assertions would have been helpful.

Seeing Stephen King was the author, I had some reservations about the story before starting. But the imaginative tale itself, the excellent narrator and the lessons to be learned about human nature, all kept me listening wherever I went. It is a long and entertaining story for those who love fantasy.

Dr. Atlas clearly did his research and had all the medical creds needed to write an authoritative book on his time in the Trump administration dealing with the coronavirus.
However, he did several times repeat phrases and information in several different chapters, which made me think it was just "filler".
He was remarkably uncritical of a White House that operated in daily chaos, and he appeared to be in awe of being within the close reach of Pres. Trump. He failed to address key components of the administration's failure to anticipate, prepare for, and cope with the worst pandemic in about a century. He made no mention of the fact that Trump directed his team to discard pandemic preparedness documents provided by the Obama team.
He complained greatly about the unanticipated consequences of locking down, which I found hypocritical as only hindsight is 20/20. Nor did he quantitate the damages to which he referred, or the inaccuracies in data collection and analysis about which he complained.
I was gobsmacked by his unflinching admiration of Ron DeSantis and his handling of Florida during the crisis.
Lastly, Dr. Atlas experienced intense frustration about how deaf his teammates were to his advice, knowledge, medical experience and research. He did not connect the dots as to why so many of those team members were unqualified to address the ongoing crisis. Not once did he appear to notice that a much smoother operation would have been possible had qualified people been appointed to the appropriate roles.
To me, now, in 2023, it seems he might have produced a better book, had he waited and reported on the bulk of the pandemic and its outcomes. It felt like he wrote a novel that wasn't finished, but published it anyway.
I recommend this book because it is full of data about aspects of epidemiology and gives a small bit of an insider peek into the functioning of the Trump time at the WH. It certainly made me think. But I am left with more questions...

I listened to this twice, at least. It has left me with so many questions, like about his current political beliefs, how did he achieve sobriety, what book was burned, and more.
Well written, well read, just what I needed in this time of fear created by a presidency best described as a living nightmare.

George Will disappointed me yet again. A brilliant mind, he seems to be unaware that others are not as well-informed nor as deeply educated as he is.
I tried his book, hoping to learn to understand the Conservative value system enough to generate some compassion for it. But the stiff narrative, and the assumption that his use of political theory and jargon would be comprehensible to his readers, just made me growl, argue with my deaf car speakers, and grind my teeth in frustration.
Books about politics and government should help the subject matter to come alive, to improve comprehension while provoking an urge to learn more. Will's book was a disappointment in this way. It needed a very long glossary and annotations, which of course it didn't have.
How could such a smart man be so blind and insensitive?
