Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

Historia
What happened to the ancient Egyptians? When their civilization fell, did the Egyptian people disappear? Or do their descendants exist to this day? What about the ancient Persians? Romans? Mayans? For years, the answers to these questions have been hidden. But no more. Nathaniel T. Jeanson, a Harvard graduate with a PhD in cell and developmental biology, has discovered a DNA-based, generation by generation family tree for global humanity. This tree uncovers the origin and fate of these ancient peoples—and connects them to peoples alive today.

Unlistenable
Revisado: 10-10-22
some books simply can't be made into an audiobook. someone somewhere thought this one was somehow different. it's not. the material does not transfer over well at all for audio format. and the narration doesn't help with any of it. I'd get the physical copy instead

Historia
Throughout the Bible, followers of Jesus are commanded to submit to Him as their King. They are told to obey and follow, faithfully and without hesitation. Every time Christians utter the word Lord, they make a subtle yet profound declaration - that God is their Master and that they belong to Him. In fact, the Bible describes believers as His slaves. They have been bought with a price and now live for Christ as a people for His own possession. But go into most churches today, even flip through most Bible translations, and you won’t see or hear the word slave anywhere.

A slave of Christ

I love that John MacArthur narrated his book. this has certainly increased my understanding of the word slave and what its intended meaning by the biblical authors.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Outstanding!
Revisado: 02-25-18
I've never known the original story of Frankenstein. I now have such a great appreciation for it. The narration was perfect. It brought to life the emotions that can easily be lost for those who struggle to connect with the text.

This brilliant new treatment of the world's oldest epic is a literary event on par with Seamus Heaney's wildly popular Beowulf translation. Esteemed translator and best-selling author Stephen Mitchell energizes a heroic tale so old it predates Homer's Iliad by more than a millennium.
