Trigger warning
Revisado: 05-01-25
The performance was great but the story starts out slow. The main character was annoying and the story takes a left turn at the end. Considering the gravity of the event the author fictionalized in her story there should be mention of it in the description.

Historia
The drought - or the Tap-Out, as everyone calls it - has been going on for a while now. Everyone’s lives have become an endless list of don’ts: don’t water the lawn, don’t fill up your pool, don’t take long showers. Until the taps run dry. Suddenly, Alyssa’s quiet suburban street spirals into a warzone of desperation; neighbors and families turned against each other on the hunt for water. And when her parents don’t return and her life - and the life of her brother - is threatened, Alyssa has to make impossible choices if she’s going to survive.

Scary because it could happen
Revisado: 03-15-23
This book gave me so much anxiety but I couldn’t stop listening. The narration was flawless. While listening I could imagine that an event like this actually happening. Similar less devastating events have happened. The character development throughout the story was relatable. You think you know who you may be in a disaster but everything can change when faced with the reality.

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

Good story, unbearable female narrative
Revisado: 12-16-22
Great story and I’d like to get the rest of the series but I could only tolerate the female narrative to book 2

Painfully boring narrator
Revisado: 07-29-21
I’ve listened to this series twice and on my second listen I remembered why I never finished the third book. The author introduces the book with an explanation why he changed the narrator for the third book. He states he felt his character was a different person after her experiences and more mature so he felt he needed someone with a more mature sound and style. What he got was terribly boring narration.
I have averaged 4-5 books a week for the past 5 years and I’ve heard all kinds of narrators. Some so good I’ll buy books just cause they are reading it. Some so awful I’ll return the book and never purchase another book they are reading for again. A good narrator can make even a poorly written book good. A poor narrator can make a really good book terrible. For this book I can’t decide if the narrative is just so terrible that it ruins the book or the book itself is terrible.
I don’t understand the reason for the change because only a year had passed in the story and all of a sudden her experiences have changed her so much she becomes monotone and boring? Also the book is categorized young adult so why the “mature” narrator? It’s really disappointing because I really enjoyed the story read by Emma Galvin and the final installment of this series fell so flat I just can’t bring myself to finish it.

Historia
The upheaval in my life began the moment a prince stumbled into my house and asked me to read his fortune. Any other night, I might have made an excuse to get him to leave, but this was no normal visit. My fingers prickled to touch him. So, I granted his request by handing him a single wishbone. When he snapped it, the wish...bled. Hearing me suck in a shocked breath, he asked what it meant. Such an ominous omen could only mean one thing: His death was imminent. Fate revealed that he wouldn’t die of natural causes. Someone wanted him dead.

Difficult to listen to
Revisado: 03-24-21
I really enjoyed this story but the narration made it difficult to finish. The narrator had a nice voice however all but the main character and the supporting female character were read in a voice that was pleasing. All the male voices and other female voices aside from the aforementioned she attempted were just painful to listen to. She frequently used a scratchy low voice which made all the characters seem either old or really sick so it made it difficult to envision a young man when the prince was speaking or even the male supporting character who was supposed to be close in age to the main character who is 17 years old. I kept feeling like the characters were elderly or on their deathbeds. The one character that was actually on his deathbed sounded younger and healthier then the rest. I would likely not be purchasing the next book in the series if it wasn’t a different narrator.

Historia
Suffer the Children presents a terrifying tale of apocalyptic fiction, as listeners are introduced to Herod's Syndrome, a devastating illness that suddenly and swiftly kills all young children across the globe. Soon, they return from the grave, and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were, but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live. The average human body holds 10 pints of blood, so the inevitable question for parents everywhere becomes: How far would you go to bring your child back?

Historia
Humanity, in its struggle to escape its own planet's demise, began sending colony ships from Earth almost 700 years ago in the desperate hope a handful would find someplace habitable for human life and be able to continue our species. Only one ship survived. It survived only because it found a vast swath of alien planets, all terraformed, all utterly abandoned. Alien megastructures cold and lifeless.

Too Extraordinary
Revisado: 09-10-16
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and, with no hesitation, purchased the 2nd as soon as it was available. The simplicity and intriguing story is what drew me in on the first book and I was dying to hear what hastened with the very likeable, and hateable, characters. The 2nd book is overwhelmingly convoluted with undefeatable super hero tech. The story unwittingly turned into a comic book and I quickly lost interest. I haven't quite finished yet however the unexpected turn irritated me to the point I felt compelled to stop reading and write this review. I am still giving the performance 5 stars and the story itself 3 stars because I am still drawn to the major characters in the story. I will continue to listen, likely skipping the tedious undefeatable super hero segments, cause I really must know what happens to my favorite characters however it is unlikely I will purchase the 3rd book in the series should there be one.
