Good performance, good plot
Revisado: 10-27-24
I enjoyed the plot, which had a few unexpected turns and the performance. I am not sure the story was absolutely solid. The ending seemed a bit rushed, while the opening was a bit too extended.

A easy summer story, performed well.
Revisado: 08-24-24
The story and dialogue was unsophisticated but not unpleasant. The performance was good and added value to the audiobook.
I am not sure if I will seek out author’s other works.

Historia
“The first of my father’s illusions was that bears could survive the life lived by human beings, and the second was that human beings could survive a life led in hotels.” So says John Berry, son of a hapless dreamer, brother to a cadre of eccentric siblings, and chronicler of the lives lived, the loves experienced, the deaths met, and the strange times encountered by the family Berry. Hoteliers, pet-bear owners, friends of Freud (the animal trainer and vaudevillian, that is), and playthings of mad fate, they “dream on” in a funny, sad, outrageous, and moving novel.

Revisado: 10-13-23
I liked it better the second time I read/ heard the story. The two readings were 25 years apart. My now more mature self found it much easier to comprehend and enjoy.

Historia
Every day at 8:05, Iona Iverson boards the train to go to work. Every day, she sees the same people and makes assumptions about them, even giving them nicknames. But they never speak. Obviously. Then, one morning, Smart-but-Sexist-Surbiton chokes on a grape right in front of Iona. Suspiciously-Nice-New Malden steps up to help and saves his life, and this one event sparks a chain reaction. With nothing in common but their commute, an eclectic group of people learn that their assumptions about each other don't match reality.

Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

I found myself drawn into the story although the plot was not exceptional. Nonetheless I enjoyed the two-books-in-one concept and the performance.

I love the series but book 6 is just too much
Revisado: 01-23-21
I really enjoyed the first 5 books of the series but book 6 was simply boring. I forced myself to hear it till the end. Unfortunately you cannot make a book interesting if you try to describe prohistoric cave paintings and fill the rest of the book repeating things you have told us before (too many times already!).
