if you can get past the narrator...
Revisado: 03-16-18
the storyline is slower to build but is an engaging long read/listen. I had a Lot of frustration with the narrator as they had a pleasant enough voice but not enough skill to differentiate characters and timelines. a little monotone ish. overall I enjoyed the plot and character development.

Historia
Rezkin is an elite warrior who aims to restore order in Ashai after Caydean's attack on the King's Tournament transformed former allies and trading partners into enemies. With no army and only a ragtag group of refugees, Rezkin must wrest control of the kingdom from the mad and powerful usurper, who seems bent on destruction, and this may not be the biggest challenge. If he fails, the kingdom will be ripped apart, and Rezkin will have violated Rule 1 - to protect and honor his friends.

Historia
Hugo and Nebula Award finalist Robin Hobb crafts intricate fantasy tales featuring larger-than-life characters and exotic landscapes. Nevare Burvelle survives the King’s Cavalla Academy—where nepotism and corruption reign—to become a soldier in the Gernian king’s army. As he and his fellow soldiers are thrust onto the front lines of the king’s brutal territorial expansion campaign, they struggle against the Plainspeople—forest-dwellers who possess a powerful magic long dismissed by the Gernians.

Slow read but,
Revisado: 05-11-16
The story was not bad, but not engaging enough for an adult . This would probably be a 4 star for a 13-16 year old or anyone dealing with class/race issues in school or work. The style is consistent with the authors other work and the performance of the narrator is on par with other good narration.

Four centuries after its founding, Solidar's Collegium of Imagers is in decline, the exploits of its founder, the legendary Quaeryt, largely forgotten. The Collegium is so lacking in leadership that the dying Maitre must summon Alastar, an obscure but talented senior imager who has little knowledge of politics in the capital, as his successor.

Pointless
Revisado: 07-10-15
Compared to the rest of the imager series this book lacked direction. It almost felt like when a long running TV show hacks together a bunch old clips and calls the montage a show. It even failed at that. I repeatedly found myself saying "this is really slow I don't care about toast or the color of lager" I have read a large number of modesitt's books and he usually comes in at an entertaining 4 starts. He missed the mark on this one.

The entire epic fantasy trilogy in one volume. Plague strikes the city of Sarum, and the dead rise from their graves. The liche, Dr. Cadman, has discovered a long-hidden artifact and perverted its power for his own selfish ends. But an ancient evil from beyond the stars is drawn by its use and turns hungry eyes upon the Earth. These are the times of Unweaving, the times Deacon Shader has been prepared for since the day he was born.

A multidimensional author, one dimensional voice
Revisado: 04-16-15
I was probably 5 hrs in and had now clue what was going on. The author like to hop around a lot. This is normally great but not with this narrator. Every character sounds the same until you are about 12 hours in and you start to notice the subtle differences. Although a good orator, Bob Neufeld was the wrong xhoice for this style of writing. The story itself was interesting but I was never sold on the inner termoyl about shader's religious beliefs.
