Historia
Max is no stranger to taking matters into her own hands. Especially when she's had A Brilliant Idea. Yes, it will mean breaking a few rules, but - as Max always says - they're not her rules. Seconded to the Time Police to join in the hunt for the renegade Clive Ronan, Max is a long way from St Mary's. But life in the future does have its plus points - although not for long. A problem with the Time Map reveals chaos in the 16th century and the wrong Tudor queen on the throne. History has gone rogue, there's a St Mary's team right in the firing line and Max must step up.

When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough. As soon as I touch down, I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces, and all the black cabs. But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits.

couldn't finish it.

These characters are one dimensional. Absolutely everything is completely explained in the interminable first-person internal monologues...gaaah! I expected a predictable plot line but the execution was painful.

Historia
Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate - and completely irresistible. A beautiful bastard. Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative - completely infuriating - creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting....

Soft porn - be aware...
Revisado: 07-10-15
If this was a film, it would be porn. Goes from one f**k to another. Promotes the idea that women really "want it" even when they say they don't.... Characters are caricature - a comic book.
I couldn't listen to more than 30 minutes. I was waiting for some depth, a story line, something other than f**king to happen. There's not even much creativity in each of the sex scenes (yes, there were at least 3 in the first 30 mins).
If you're looking for quality anything here, it's the performance. She does great work with what she's given.

Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

I listen to books everyday - going through 3-6 a month and rarely write a review. However, this was riveting. I simple could not stop listening. The twists & turns, the pathos... And, as ever, Mr. Cosham is superb.

put me to sleep...
Revisado: 08-08-14
Just couldn't take it....the first book in the series finally had activity/action in the last third of the book. I just couldn't force myself to pay attention to this one like I did with the first. I was hoping it would be better but no.... All dialogue about the history, politics and context....kind of like an extended "feather dusting" scene (look it up!)
I want my credit back!

Historia
Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

A Magical rewrite of the early 20th century
Revisado: 08-06-12
Correia adds another level (Magic) to the history we all know and then twists the outcome accordingly. "Actives" with basic powers of differing intensities group together to save and/or destroy the world. A couple great plot twists, a little bit of love interest and a pretty completely developed new world of powers. The pace of the story moves right along. I found that I liked the good guys and enjoyed disliking the bad guys. Not that everyone really was black and white...plenty of mistrust, vain ambition and misguided loyalty...
A very entertaining listen. If you liked his Monster Hunter series, you'll like this series even more for it's freshness and humor.
Looking forward to book two...
Oh, and Bronson Pinchot does a stellar job of dialects, including the regional "pace" of various characters. Very fun to listen.

Very much worth listening to both....
Revisado: 08-06-12
Yes, it was long...I concur with past reviewers. However, what a treat to get into the world of WWII England. The characters keeping secrets from each other was a bit tedious, unbelievable and felt like a device used to further prolong the plot. Carefully, so as not to publish any spoilers, I really liked how the characters' beliefs about what was going on changed. Liked the world view that everyone has an effect, we are all connected in one way or another...the System is expanding for Good...very New Thought.
I really enjoyed most of it. Kate Kellgren does a great job with the accents, especially personifying the kids....what a crack up!
You get to enter in and vicariously experience the "home front". Well done.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Fun with surprising depth...
Revisado: 08-06-12
At first it's just silly - the premise is somewhat mind-bending but there is a bit of substance there, too. Wil Wheaton does a skilled job. I do agree with other reviewers that the "he said" "she said" can get distracting.... Sounds like the book wasn't created to be read aloud. Still, it was not such a big deal and didn't detract (much) from the story.

Historia
They call me the Spider. I'm the most feared assassin in the South -- when I'm not busy at the Pork Pit cooking up the best barbecue in Ashland. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. My Ice magic also comes in handy for making the occasional knife. But I don't use my powers on the job unless I absolutely have to. Call it professional pride.

Simplistic and a bit tedious...
Revisado: 07-19-12
Another heroine filled with angst believing she is responsible for her family and friend's death? Really? It's all her fault? I just didn't buy it. It's a fun idea with the "elementals" and their different levels of ability living in a corrupt city - very dark. But the main character repeats herself regularly - rehashing her own and others' motivation - blah! It gets old and a bit sappy - kind of adolescent. Maybe the characters are supposed to be cartoonish? Good guy - oh, so good and naive. Bad guys - unconscionable and stupid? I will say the narrator used wonderful accents and played with the pace nicely - really set the atmosphere.

Native American twist on the supernatural
Revisado: 07-16-12
Very entertaining! What a great main character - a strong, intelligent woman who has depth of character - a well developed protagonist that I really liked and could cheer for... The storyline moved along at a great pace with action, flashbacks and transformations - educating the reader on the culture/world of these characters. Narrator was flawless - meaning she didn't draw attention to herself rather had excellent distinctive voices for each character....love, love, love!!
