Mostly enjoyed this and it’s worth your time to listen

I know that’s not a rave review but it truly was a good story. Where it failed is in it structure and execution. I really feel like it was in need of a good editor sort the order of events and help in the precise building of character development. That’s not to say I didn’t like the characters. I just didn’t get to know them as I would have liked. In the end of the book it seems as if the author has to make up for lost time by finally telling us who everyone really is.
Vague? Maybe. But I am looking forward to the sequel now that I feel I know all the characters better.
As for the voice performance. I guess it’s all about choices. Some of them I didn’t like and unfortunately the ones I didn’t enjoy were usually main characters. Outside of that, it is narrated with excellent emotion for the story. I can tell that Greg took the proper time to read the book and work out his voicing a head of the recording sessions. His diction was a bit odd for these New England ears for the first chapter but I quickly adjusted.

Historia
Cora Broussard finds herself restless in utopian 2030’s New California until a seemingly chance meeting with Ashley Doral, a sultry free spirit from the Jobber underclass. Ashley has what Cora wants: fire, agency, and the ability to express unfettered desire. Despite the dizzying bliss of a new romance with Ashley, Cora can’t shake the feeling that she is being watched by New California’s tranquilizer gun-armed government protection officers.

It’s a story with great potential but...
Revisado: 07-22-20
I am a lover of near future speculative fiction and this story has a lot going for it. The BUT has to do solely with the narrator. I’m through chapter three and there’s been some pretty steamy stuff happening. Yet, the narrator seems utterly disinterested. She is clear and concise with every word. You could cut better with her diction. Unfortunately her reading is so robotic and lacking in emotive nuance that I find it impossible to continue listening. I am anxious to enjoy the whole book and will read it on my own so I can create the voices and emotion in my own head.
I hope this review isn’t too harsh. Trying only to be constructive and honest.

Historia
If Jane Austen had written a gay romance with a murder mystery and time travel, this book would be it. Edward Ford Westcott has accepted a position in a clandestine program that seeks to find answers to history's greatest unknowns. He is sent back in time to 18th-century England to investigate a woman’s murder and falls in love with Ian Gallihugh, the devote nephew of the soon-to-be victim, but when he and his partner, Angelica Law, are thrown into the upper echelons of English society, they soon discover that things are not what they appear to be.

Time travel and romance go together like a horse and carriage.

I listen to audiobooks while I’m working. If I can keep doing my work without losing track of the story, I know it’s a good one.
Let me start with the narration. Trista Harter is superb. Her voice is both calming and concise at the same time. I would listen to her narrate the Yellow Pages.
On to the story. I honestly had no expectations going in. I had no idea what the book would be about. I was delighted.
For those who don’t know, and without spoilers, there is time travel, a proper British mystery and romance. The fact that the romance is LGBTQ+ friendly is a bonus for me. If that isn’t your cup of tea, go away.
Loved every minute of it and I’m hoping for a sequel.
Favorite line: Shut up, Ford!!!
