Having recently visited Japan, I enjoyed this novel knowing some of the places and foods that were in it. As an audible, i liked how each story was two chapters long and thus could be stopped at the end of each story and picked up later.I also liked how each story was sentimental, a mystery solved, a happy ending. The narrator was also good - added a nice additional dimension with his British accent.

Historia
Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to become Southern California’s first giraffes. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

Absolutely loved the story - the main subject of how two giraffes traveled across the US during the Great Depression with multilayered timelines and characters with their own stories plus a mystery of sorts. Absolutely loved the narration of this audiobook - it was the perfect voice to narrate Woody Nickels.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel as well as the audio presentation! The issues that the novel dealt with and the full range of characters - with the well matched narration - was done very well.

Historia
Beautiful Caroline Crale was convicted of poisoning her husband, but just like the nursery rhyme, there were five other "little pigs" who could have done it: Philip Blake (the stockbroker), who went to market; Meredith Blake (the amateur herbalist), who stayed at home; Elsa Greer (the three-time divorcee), who had her roast beef; Cecilia Williams (the devoted governess), who had none; and Angela Warren (the disfigured sister), who cried all the way home.
Sixteen years later, Caroline's daughter is determined to prove her mother's innocence.

...and another great narration by Hugh Fraser. Though story telling felt repetitive or circular, it had a purpose. Merging literature and visual art - very well done.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

utterly creative, imaginative, yet satisfying
Revisado: 10-21-20
Mexican Gothic started out with a stereotypical socialite but it turns into an unexpected Gothic novel romance. I appreciated the way the author weaved fairy tales into the story and effectively used Gothic elements. But Silvia Morena-Garcia nails a solid 10 for her narrative. No spoilers. Read the novel.

Historia
Laurie is sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend: the man from the bus.

enchanting!
Revisado: 01-11-19
it was a long listen but great for a long road trip. Lisa Flanagan was amazing at reading the novel; at first, it was difficult to figure out that she was switching characters. even in the book, it's not noted whose speaking. But Lisa was able voice the 5 characters that ranged from an elderly woman to a young boy, and 3 distinct young ladies. The story line itself was brilliant and Flanagan's reading of it was enchanting!

what an amazing book and reading! I was put off by the first couple of pages when I picked up the book. The performance of the audio version pulled me through the first not-so-interesting part and then drove the story which was fascinating and heart-touching.
