it's not you it's my brain but maybe it's you
Revisado: 10-14-24
I adored Freya Marskes last series and I really loved Omari Douglas in It's a Sin but for whatever reason my brain can't process this book with his narrating style. it's hard to tell the voices apart and sometimes pov seems to jump mid chapter which makes it all the more difficult. I've had to rewind full chapters and I've given up out if frustration

Historia
Alfie Bell is . . . fine. He's got a six-figure salary, a penthouse in Canary Wharf, the car he swore he'd buy when he was 18, and a bunch of fancy London friends. It's rough, though, going back to South Shields now that they all know he's a fully paid-up pansy. It's the last place he's expecting to pull. But Fen's gorgeous, with his pink-tipped hair and hipster glasses, full of the sort of courage Alfie's never had. It should be a one-night thing, but Alfie hasn't met anyone like Fen before.

great narration but hard to hear on the highway
Revisado: 08-19-21
I love every single queer book that MLD/Cornell Collins has narrated. especially this one but their is one big thing that made this hard to listen to. I like to listen in the car while driving and generally this involves highways. Every single MLD book is hard to hear while driving on the highway. My phone is turned all the way up and I have to turn up the stereo so loud it's uncomfortable. This isn't an issue with other books. It could be a sound mixing issue or my car who knows but it's frustrating

August Hayling went west following the discovery of gold in California. While most prospectors were hoping to strike it rich, August was more interested in a place big enough to let him get lost. Sitting alone in a saloon, he is approached by a peculiar man named Georgios Cappadocia, who offers August a fortune in gold if August will come along and help him fetch it. August soon learns that his strange new employer is engaged in some kind of ancient dispute. And when they arrive at their destination, both men will realize that not all treasures are golden - and sometimes destinies can be changed.

Great short story
Revisado: 02-23-18
Very short historical fantasy. I loved what we were able to see of the characters and the universe. The audio at times felt very fast if a bit jarring. Almost like one big run on sentance in certain places. I had to slow it down quite a bit to 0.9x speed. KC does great voices though as usual and I loved the writing style

Here is how my association with Feximal came about. I dare say it may not be quite what you expect.

Historia
England, 1904. Two years ago, Captain Archie Curtis lost his friends, fingers, and future to a terrible military accident. Alone, purposeless, and angry, Curtis is determined to discover if he and his comrades were the victims of fate, or of sabotage. Curtis's search takes him to an isolated, ultra-modern country house, where he meets and instantly clashes with fellow guest Daniel da Silva. Effete, decadent, foreign, and all-too-obviously queer, the sophisticated poet is everything the straightforward British officer fears and distrusts.

Audio issues
Revisado: 07-03-17
How could the performance have been better?
I had issues with the performance at times in that the narrator would suddenly get very quite so it became very hard to hear especially while driving on the highway over the holidays. I had to turn up the volume almost as high as it would go which is headache inducing. Otherwise besides it was hard at times to distinguish voices and the narrator also had a very bored cadence to his voice. I am hoping book 2 is better

Historia
After a decade of serving in the Army, everyone still expects me to be Dominic "Nicky" Costigan, the skirt-chasing player. They don't know I've been spending my days trying to figure out my post-military life. Including how to pick up guys. When I meet Luke on a hookup app, he makes it clear it's for one night only. That's fine with me, because I'm down to see what this silver fox can do. But after I arrive at his doorstep, it doesn't take long to realize we have serious chemistry, and we end up meeting again.

Same voices as last book
Revisado: 04-05-17
What didn’t you like about Guy Locke and Eric London ’s performance?
their performance is agonizing. They use the same voices for Dominic and Luke as they did with Kai and Garrett. It was extremely irritating and took away from the story that I couldn't even finish because of their poor choice of voice use. In the first book Dominic had a heavy accent which while a bit strange was different in this he sounds exactly like Kai. I will not be listening to book 3 of they do not change their voices.

Amazing narration could not save this for me
Revisado: 11-26-16
Would you try another book from Z. A. Maxfield and/or Greg Boudreaux?
I have read Zams newer books and Greg will always be amazing
What was most disappointing about Z. A. Maxfield’s story?
If I had read this when it originally came out when I was in high school i would have loved it. Right now it is to soap operaesque and to utterly ridiculous and unbelievable. I wanted to love it because I have strong ties to the anime community but the gyf did not work for me at all and neither did the bad stereotype that was Emilia. So this is very much a case of sorry book neither of should be speaking with each other right now we are both wrong for each other. I will not be finishing this dnf 50%
Any additional comments?
Greg narration as always is flawless and amazing. He is a fantastic narrator but not even a great narrator in this can save this story for me.
