Historia
Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

I would like to see more books like this that are comprehensive in looking at the historical facts of native peoples before, during, and after being relegated to reserves.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Well written and well performed
Revisado: 04-17-24
The author did a great job in making a Dickens story line modern. The realities she put forth in this well told story were sobering. The performance was also well done and not over played for the drama that is in this tale.

Historia
On the afternoon of August 20, 1910, a battering ram of wind moved through the drought-stricken national forests of Washington, Idaho, Montana, whipping the hundreds of small blazes burning across the forest floor into a roaring inferno that jumped from treetop to ridge as it raged, destroying towns and timber in an eyeblink. Forest rangers had assembled nearly 10,000 men - college boys, day-workers, immigrants from mining camps - to fight the fires. But no living person had seen anything like those flames, and neither the rangers nor anyone else knew how to subdue them.

History worth learning
Revisado: 11-28-21
This book is one that gives insight into how politics works and how conservation can also go awry.
It also shows how party politics are shaped by the personalities and not always by their past platforms.
It sickens me to know how lives were not respected and the loss of life was given less value than a lost fancy house.
I appreciate the story of Ione Adair being included.

A good read during Pride Month
Revisado: 07-19-21
I was interested due to the Clark connection. I grew up in Butte, MT. I started it in late June. This is a good read during Pride Month. I feel for all the souls who have been raised to not lie but then are forced to lie because the world won't accept them for who they are. This story is also one that should help people to realize that they need to know how to earn a living even if they don't always have to.

Historia
An intense psychological thriller for fans of I Am Watching You, The Luckiest Girl Alive, and All the Missing Girls. Two missing girls. Thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw has been missing since last Tuesday. She was last seen outside the entrance of her elementary school in Hunts Point wearing a white spring jacket, blue jeans, and pink boots. I force myself to look at the face in the photo, into her slightly smudged features, and I can't bring myself to move. Olivia Shaw could be my mirror image, rewound to 13 years ago.

I want to know more about WWII in Italy
Revisado: 04-21-18
This story made me realize how little I know about the war in Italy. It would be a good accompaniment to studying that period in high school.
I reccomend it.

I get it, she is well prepared...
Revisado: 02-07-18
Too many paragraphs spent telling me how prepared and well thought out the main character is that I am led to almost cheer for something to go wrong. Not enough at end to say why it went wrong. Middle was too long and last chapters too short. Too many details put in then not explained. Good effort but I was left a little flat.

Historia
For some kids summer is a sun-soaked season of fun. But for Steve it's just another season of worries. Worries about his sick newborn baby brother, who is fighting to survive; worries about his parents, who are struggling to cope; even worries about the wasp's nest looming ominously from the eaves. So when a mysterious wasp queen invades his dreams, offering to "fix" the baby, Steve thinks his prayers have been answered.

I found it strange but it is well written. I kept wondering about the mental health of Steve. However, there are people out there who will enjoy this more than I did so I'm not going to judge it harshly. It is well written.

Good story like some of the pervious
Revisado: 07-25-16
This has a good plot line with some original twists. I would have given it more stars but the author made sure to emphasize a plot point and then neglected it in the climax. I hope she and her editor hold a bit better for the next book in the series which I will read.
The reading was well done and well directed.
