Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

This was a fun and quick listen. A sweet holiday romance. No crazy drama that makes no sense or makes you roll your eyes. Loved the characters. And Jason and Andi are two of my favorite narrators.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Revisado: 07-26-23
It’s heartbreaking, it’s beautiful, and it’s powerful. I’m disappointed the book is over and I don’t get to continue reading about these characters that Kingsolver has done such a beautiful job bringing to life. I won’t soon forget this novel. And the narration by Charlie Thurston, is absolutely phenomenal. The whole thing is just beautifully done.

Enough with the similes
Revisado: 04-26-23
If you want to be well versed in every simile ever coined, then this book is for you. It’s overdone and exhausting. I enjoyed the first book in the series, but this one is nauseating. I imagine if you took them out, you would be left with an hour of narration. These characters shouldn’t have been given their own book. They’d have been fine supporting characters, but that’s about it.

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

There are two little words every small-town man dreads: She’s back. Harper Sanders, the girl who was supposed to be my forever, has returned to Port Snow, Maine, for good - and she’s bringing back memories of our shared past. We once had a bright future together, but when tragedy struck, I threw it all away and pushed her out of my life. People in our small town think I’m cursed, but I know better. I did it all to myself.

Great book, explicit love scenes
Revisado: 07-02-20
Loved this story. The narrators did fine. Reese did great, but William, just meh for me in this book. I liked him in the last book as Griffin, but in this book, his voice for Rogan sounds like Patrick Warburton. All I could think of was Kronk, from Emperor’s New Groove. 🤷♀️ I did get over it, because I enjoyed the story of Rogan and Harper. I enjoyed the back and forth from past to present. Very well written.
If you do not tolerate cursing or very descriptive sex scenes, I would say you likely won’t like this story.

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 04-26-20
I haven’t been able to pay attention to the story, because the narrator is so awful. No inflection, no flow to the story. I would describe it as choppy. I can only presume the positive reviews are from those that know the narrator personally. I have always like books by Catherine Bybee, just not a fan of this narrator.

Decent book and narration
Revisado: 10-20-18
Finally...a male narrator that doesn’t change his voice to be obnoxious and shrill. Most male narrators grate on me with their valley girl interpretation of a female character.
The story is okay. Entertaining enough, not amazing or very memorable. But fun enough to pass the time.
