Assata Shakur’s story has undergone extreme censorship, has had many mistellings and misreadings. This audiobook corrects that record, offering a vivid first-personal account of the life of a heroine.

I went into this book with high expectations. the first in the series (steelheart) was very good and this one was no exception. Sanderson crafts a complex plot with some of the same familiar characters from steelheart and some new additions. Andrews' skillful reading and his amazing ability to craft voices that embody each character perfectly complements the plot. all in all, an exceptional book.

Laugh out loud stories for kids 5 & up

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 09-06-10

This series of the misadventures of Jeremy James kept my kids laughing and entertained for hours. The stories are English, and at times the narrator reads too quickly. But the stories are fun, if slightly blunt. People are described as "fat", not chubby or stocky. Adults drink and smoke too much, and parents are lovingly portrayed with all their flaws. It's the real world from a young child's point of view. Highly recommended!

Grim Tales Better Suited to Teens and Adults

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 07-24-10

Although this audiobook is listed as appropriate for ages 6 and up, the fables are dark and grim stories, with Hitler-like weasels, insipid Beattle-esque beetles, and nuclear warmongering monkeys. Needless to say, these stories were breathtaking in their cruelty and violence, and left my 8 and 6 year olds wondering what they meant and a bit alarmed. Teens with a dark sense of humor may enjoy them, but I can't recommend them for children.

This story makes long car rides a breeze

Sharon Creech's tale managed to keep 3 kids (ages 5, 8, 9) and one adult totally enraptured. The narrator did an amazing job of keeping the large cast of characters distinct, and the story is suspenseful without being scary. There is truly something for everyone - a touch of chaste romance, silly humor, action and suspense. Highly recommended!

Political satire version of traditional tale

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-02-09

This audiobook is probably best suited to older children (ages 10 and up), since the narrators use the story as a way to satirize government policies. Much of the satirical content went way above my 6 and 8 year old's heads. If you're looking for a faithful retelling, this is not the version to choose.

Great book for siblings

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-02-09

This book was a hit with my 6 yo son and 8 yo daughter. They could identify the with ups and downs of sibling relationships. Judy Blume strikes just the right balance between realism and possibility. The children have fears and overcome them, and the adults have just the right level of imperfection. Highly, highly recommend this book.

Charming stories for young children

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-02-09

My 8 year old daughter loves these simple stories about a mouse and mole and their adventures in friendship. The dialect is rather heavily British, so some children may have trouble understanding it. However, the stories are short and have funny sound effects to help children stay engaged. My children have enjoyed all of the books.

Excellent audio entertainment ages 6 and up

My children, ages 6 and 8, love the Tomie dePaola audiobooks. The stories are simple and charming with just the right amount of humor and action. Tomie dePaola is not the most engaging narrator, but my children don't mind. They can relate to the everyday experiences of young boy 60 years ago.

Fun story for children 8 and under

Total

Revisado: 06-14-08

My 7 yo girl and 5 yo boy loved this creative story! Despite a significant Aussie accent, my kids could follow the plot well, and the story has a healthy dose of excitement but nothing scary. My daughter related to the trials and tribulations of having an over-active imagination.
