While the high-profile murder of a young country singer turns Nashville inside out, danger lurks in the woods beyond the city’s border. There was a witness to the terrible crime, a college student who stumbled onto the scene. When the girl goes missing, the police don’t know if she’s run for cover or been taken…or if something more sinister is happening. The truth will shatter Taylor’s career and bring her face to face with a deadly assassin who wants nothing more than to finish what they started.

What Happened to Sam????
Revisado: 08-21-24
I absolutely love Taylor Jackson and have listened to every book. I am so disappointed and confused with this one. Please know I have NEVER given a bad review.
PROS:
1. Interesting story line.
2. The narrator speaks French very well and was likely chosen for that purpose. I get the possible reason for the abrupt change in narrators this far into a series.
CONS:
1. Even though interesting, the story felt very James Bond and was without Taylor's team.
2. The narrator changed. Joyce Bean perfectly captured all the characters, and I really struggled with this change. Gone was Taylor's husky Tennessee accent and Lincoln's sexy deep voice. Taylor and Angelie (sp?) sounded alike unless Angelie's parts were spoken with a French accent, which did not happen all the time. I kept having to rewind to figure out whose thinking was being narrated.
3. WTH happened to Sam???!! And the twins?!! And Simon?! Did I miss something? Please don't tell me it shows up in Sam's books. Gah. I am SO confused. When and why did Taylor become captain? Please do not give us another prequel down the road to explain it. I absolutely hate this giant chasm in the lives of the characters. I bought Sam's books because I was enjoying Taylor's series so much, and now I'm afraid I will regret it.
4. This is not Star Wars. All the book readers I know who follow a series fastidiously follow them in order. If we realize a book we bought is part of a series, we will stop reading, get all the other books, and read them in order. Prequels may work for movies like Star Wars, where stories stand alone on their own and prequels tie stories together, but they don't work for a book series. We get invested in the characters and their lives.
5. The bonus book at the end could have started at the beginning.
6. Taylor is just not the same without her team. I love the way Taylor's team respect her, the way they are bonded and work together so effortlessly, and the way Baldwin's cases draw Taylor in. Who doesn't love a good serial killer story? All of those things were missing.
As much as I want another Taylor Jackson book, I am too frustrated by the odd sequencing and confusion. Joyce Bean would have to narrate, and the team would have to be back together again including Sam.
Here's a thought: Write a book where Taylor wakes up in the hospital after the Pretender shot her, and all of the books that followed were just a long, bad dream. It worked for Bobby in Dallas. Why not Taylor?

Historia
All of Nashville is on edge with a serial killer on the loose. A madman is trying to create his own end-of-days apocalypse and the cops trying to catch him are almost as damaged as the killer. Field of Graves reveals the origins of some of J.T. Ellison's most famous creations: the haunted Lieutenant Taylor Jackson; her blunt, exceptional best friend, medical examiner Dr. Samantha Owens; and troubled FBI profiler Dr. John Baldwin.

What Happened? THIS is Book 1
Revisado: 08-21-24
As others have noted, Field of Graves is really book one. I stumbled across the Taylor Jackson series with book 3 and bought the first three so I could listen in order (it is what we book readers do with series). The "first" book, All the Pretty Girls, kept making detailed references to past story lines for both Baldwin and Jackson, so I was convinced I missed something somewhere. I kept searching for another Taylor Jackson story that might explain the confusion but could not find anything. I feel like this book was written but for some reason never published until it was added as 8th in the series. Please renumber these for the sake of your readers/listeners!
The story is good, albeit confusing at times. Baldwin's story does not align with the story told in a previous book that goes into great detail about the tragic loss of his team. Which one is true? Again, it makes me think this book was written first but never published. All the ideas in this book have played out in others but many with different details.

Start With Book 8!!
Revisado: 08-21-24
Excellent series, awesome characters, and the narration captures the characters perfectly. Ellison keeps referring to past events that both Baldwin and Jackson experienced, so I kept looking to see if there was a story I missed. There were SO many details that I just knew I missed a book somewhere. Couldn't find anything, so I keep moving forward because I love Jackson and the series. When I get to book 8, Field of Graves, I felt as if it was written but never published for some reason. Field of Graves is the beginning that explains all the backstory in All the Pretty Girls. I wish I would have know that before I started. I've never experienced this in a series before and would have jumped ahead and then come back to this one.

I Didn't Think It Was Possible
Revisado: 02-27-24
I am a huge an of Kristin Hannah and have collected all her books, both hardback and audible. I love her skill at weaving stories through a lens of historical fiction and without all the happy-ever-after endings - endings that leave the reader without any question of how a story will turn out. Rather, Hannah's books are real while offering a sense of hope. I never know how a story will end, and I appreciate that.
While there are many great books, I never thought any story could compare to The Nightingale - until now. The Women is a powerful story that highlights the many traumas resulting from the Vietnam War. Particularly troubling was the rejection women faced, not only from the public but also from their fellow veterans and the Veteran's Administration. I am reluctant to start a new book because I am still savoring this incredible story. This book has already been recommended to all of my book-reading friends who are also Hannah fans.
Julia Whelan is nothing short of perfect. One reviewer said she would listen to the narration of the dictionary if Whelan recorded it; I agree. She is the best narrator in the industry.
This book is not to be missed. It my humble opinion, it is Hannah's best book so far. Stop reading reviews and just buy the book. You will be glad you did.

Complex and Compelling
Revisado: 03-11-23
I have thoroughly enjoyed observing the journey of the characters in this series. I’m glad Jo and Cork have come together and found peace, as well as a powerful partnership. Rose? I could only ever hope to be half the woman she represents.
Rare for me, I figured out the killer maybe a third or halfway through the story. Extremely rare. The story was so complex, however, that I kept questioning that assumption which made waiting for the revelation that much more savory.
David Chandler was perfect as always. I always assumed that if I became a groupie of anything it would be music, yet here I am following a narrator from author to author. Chandler brings characters to life. He feels like an old friend. If that makes a person a “groupie,” so be it. I have no time to worry about it because I’m off to the next book. I invite others to join the Chandler fan club.

Revisado: 01-09-23
Two books in now, and I love the way Marc Cameron creates strong female characters. You have a new fan. This was, however, the first time I’ve cried at the end of this type of a story. I’m not sure what to think about that. Maybe Cameron just has a knack for creating great characters and their stories in addition to a good suspenseful story. As usual, Chandler did not disappoint. Looking forward to the next book.

I binged 22 books in the Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box and narrated by David Chandler. I enjoyed them so much that I guess I’ve become a Chandler groupie, so I followed him here.
Open Carry did not disappoint. Cutter is the perfect hero, and I’m looking forward to getting to know January Cross better, as well as the development of Cutter’s relationship with Mim. Chandler, of course, did not disappoint. Heading to book 2….

I accidentally started with Long Range (book 20) a couple of months ago. I liked it so much that I went to book one and have listened to every one of them in order to this point. Hands down I think Wolf Pack has been the most intense and best book so far. Well done!
I’m going to re-listen to Long Range and then finish the last two. I’m already mourning nearing the end of this amazing series. I feel invested in the lives of the characters and feel like I know them. Box can’t write more books fast enough. I may just start from the beginning again when I’m done!
