Historia
Whether around the campfire, between the covers of a great book, or in the theater, the desire to tell stories has been a common human impulse for thousands of years. These 48 lectures take you on a journey through time and around the world-from the enormous auditoriums of ancient Greece to a quiet study in the home of a 19th-century New England spinster - to introduce the history of world literature. In this course, you'll sample some of the greatest literary expressions the world has known and experience storytelling in its many forms, including poetry, drama, and narrative.

Another great survey course
Revisado: 04-30-18
I enjoyed the summaries because throughout the lectures insights are given for all levels of readers; good ideas and unique perspectives add to revisited works, and easy introductions presented literature I did not know existed, until now.

Historia
What is Western Civilization? According to Professor Noble, it is "much more than human and political geography," encompassing myriad forms of political and institutional structures - from monarchies to participatory republics - and its own traditions of political discourse. It involves choices about who gets to participate in any given society and the ways in which societies have resolved the tension between individual self-interest and the common good.

Historia
In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Great work, hopefully
Revisado: 12-16-17
I felt somehow obligated to get this book, feeling called to the work of helping others. I blame my mother, the Baptists of my childhood, those missionaries back from Africa, or that preacher Alabama who came to Toledo, Ohio, on a mission to dwell among the inner city-ites, the poor people, people like me and my family, struggling on welfare an dealing with mental disabilities, brain injuries, alcohol and drug issues. I know these stories first hand, but have never been evicted. I'm very lucky. I'm blessed. I don't like being called white, but sometimes wonder if that's where the luck came from. I know of a reverse racism. Eventually, it is easiest to just walk away and kid myself that "real" racism is no longer a real problem, or to say that poor people let themselves stay impoverished. This book puts me back into the wonder mode. I'm going back to school, and I'm going to help at-risk youths. I c an because someone once, ling ago, encouraged me. Otherwise, I would says it's hopeless, and calailmity is inevitable; the US. is spiraling towards doom, and stand clear while you still can. Or is there some hope for the homeless? This book gets me thinking. It's easy to follow, but challenges close attention, offers no real solution, except maybe the ONLY one we have: This is an issue that needs to be looked into, and this book helps in stirring up the conversation. -m

A basic introductory help, this is exactly what I wanted. Good refresher text, and I found out a few new things, and brushed up on vocabulary. Several points were made that inspired me to make plans for more research and practice. I will be definately be listening to it a second time soon, and am open to other audio books by same prducers.
