Historia
It's been five whole months since the last murder in Cedar River, Texas, and Juni Jessup and her sisters Tansy and Maggie have been humming along when disaster strikes again. Their struggling vinyl records shop/coffee nook, Sip & Spin Records, is under pressure from predatory investors, though the Jessup sisters aren't ready to face the music and admit defeat. But the night after their meeting, the sketchy financier is killed outside their shop during a torrential Texas thunderstorm that washes out all the roads in and out of town.

Perfectly delightful story

This was one of the most satisfying stories I've ever read. It is the perfect combination of drama and lightness, entertainment and history. One of Bowen's best, in my opinion.

Historia
Pat Conroy is without doubt America's favorite storyteller, a writer who portrays the anguished truth of the human heart and the painful secrets of families in richly lyrical prose and unforgettable narratives. Now, in Beach Music, he tells of the dark memories that haunt generations, in a story that spans South Carolina and Rome and reaches back into the unutterable terrors of the Holocaust.

Beautiful, intense and masterful

This book is about redemption. It covers much Americana and delves characters' experiences from the Holocaust to Vietnam. Conroy's writing is superb.

Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in LA alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Great story, terrible narrator
Revisado: 07-29-18
I have listened almost exclusively to audio books for years and I've never heard a narrator this bad. Not only were her inflections unnatural (she almost sounded like AI at times because of over articulating even the word "to" where a normal person would not), but her attempt at the accent of one of her European characters sounded like someone from Deep South America. Bizarre. She read all her men with what sounded like pursed lips, which resulted in sounding like a puppet show or children's story. Terrible. In general, she was so bad that it was almost stressful listening to the book at times. I can't believe she ever got selected as the voiceover for this. Her voice itself has a pleasant timbre, but the skill isn't there.

Reading superb, story a let down.
Revisado: 05-28-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Mockingjay to be better than the print version?
Yes .
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would change nothing about the reading. Carolyn McCormick was so good that when I tried to read the book myself I would go too fast to get as into it. Her pace and skill at dramatic reading takes the reader through every moment. So listening to her really maximizes the experience.
As for the story itself: the things that "worked out" in the end did not make the agony worth it. The author cheated us out of satisfaction. I can respect her realism and avoidance of a typical "happy ending," but something was missing. I think Collins could have at least given us a good couple chapters on the reconciliation and love between Katniss and Peeta.

Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Excellent reader, tiring story
Revisado: 05-28-12
Would you try another book from Robert A. Heinlein and/or Lloyd James?
While I understand why this book is an award-winning masterpiece (Heinlein's grasp of international relations, politics, revolutionary strategy, philosophy, technology, and projection of the future is staggering), it was too heavy on the political theory for me. If it weren't for the audio version, I would probably not have finished it. What it sacrifices for in action it makes up for in brilliance of concept. I prefer an equal balance of both.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The most interesting aspect of the story to me was the endearing computer Mike.
What about Lloyd James’s performance did you like?
Lloyd James is a genius, hands down, with his mastery of accents. His pace, inflection, and tone were perfect. My only complaint was that when he did the voice of Wyoh and other female characters, he ended up sounding like a gay man and it was distracting. It's best, with male readers, to not try to attempt to sound female. It doesn't work. With that said, I still had to give him 5 stars because he was that amazing otherwise.

Historia
Murders happen every day in the big bad city. They're not such a big deal, you know. Even when the victim is a city councilman as well-known as Lester Henderson.
But this is the first time Fat Ollie Weeks of the 88th Precinct has written a novel, ah yes. Called Report to the Commissioner, it follows a cunning detective named Olivia Wesley Watts, who, apart from being female and slim, is rather like Fat Ollie himself. While Ollie's responding to the squeal about the dead councilman, his leather dispatch case is stolen from the back of his car....

Great Listen
Revisado: 05-28-12
Where does Fat Ollie's Book rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
On a scale of 1-10 of the audiobooks I've listened to so far (which aren't many as of yet), Fat Ollie ranks a 9.
What did you like best about this story?
Michael Arkin is a good reader and his pace is perfect -- not too fast or too slow. He has an excellent mastery of the accents he had to cover.
Which character – as performed by Michael Arkin – was your favorite?
My favorite character as performed by Michael Arkin would be the male Puerto Rican prostitute.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
I only wished sometimes that Arkin wouldn't read every single sentence so dramatically. Occasionally, I felt like he was reading a children's book and that it needed toned down as the mood of certain scenes or dialogue varied.

Excellent Narration (and story)
Revisado: 04-30-12
What made the experience of listening to The Hunger Games the most enjoyable?
This was my first-ever audio book and, as a die-hard lover of holding a material book, I was pleasantly surprised. Carolyn McCormick is an excellent reader. She held my attention and took me through the story in such a way that a movie was played out in my head. At one point, I tried to continue the story by just reading it on my own and it was suddenly going too fast. I was missing significance. McCormick really maximized the story for me.
