John E Sarno was a Genius Ahead of His TIme
Revisado: 10-08-19
I’ll start by saying that I consider myself a skeptic about most things. I’m agnostic. I don’t believe in a soul, or in ghosts, magic, E.S.P., aliens, or anything new age, and I’m not “spiritual”. So the fact that I have fully embraced Dr. Sarno’s belief that the vast majority of chronic pain is caused by the mind is really remarkable.
I am an Army veteran, and I’ve had an office job where I have had to sit for the last 20 years, and my position is extremely high pressure. About a year and a half ago, I started waking around 3am-5am in excruciating pain feeling like someone punched me in the back, so it has caused horrible insomnia, and I had not slept soundly throughout the night since before the pain started.
I went to my doctor, but they only recommended exercises, physical therapy, and to go see a chiropractor. The pain got to be so bad, that I messaged my brother and told him that I was going to take my own life if I couldn’t get the pain to go away.
Then my buddy told me about a doctor who he heard about on Howard Stern’s show. Stern calls Dr. Sarno his “savior” for fixing his back, and I also read an article in Forbes where the author called Sarno, “the most brilliant doctor in America”, so I picked this audiobook up on a Friday.
The next day on Saturday, I woke in the worst pain that I have ever experienced with my back since the pain started, and I had no mobility at all! I decided to stay in bed that day, and I finished his audiobook, and by that evening, I fully believed Sarno’s theories because he was very convincing to me.
That night, I laid in bed and tried some of the techniques I learned. I talked to my brain and told it that I know there is nothing wrong with my back, and that my brain is just trying to distract me from repressed anger, fear, or stress. I envisioned myself waking up pain free, and envisioned myself moving around with full mobility. And then the next morning when I woke up, I was pain-free, with full mobility for the first time in over a year!! And I wept.
I am going on my 3rd week now with no pain, and it feels like a miracle. I’m no longer scared of my (new) mattress, haha. The pain has tried to creep back at different points at work, but I just tell my brain that I know what it is up to, and it pushes the pain away like magic. I feel like I just got the instruction manual for my body.
Anyway, now I am upset that the medical community could be so ignorant of the mindbody connection. If you are experiencing pain, and you have already ruled out disease or a serious fracture, open your mind to the possibility that your mind can be causing the pain. What is pain anyway, besides just a signal from your brain?
If you still need convincing, look up the video of the older ABC 20/20 segment that they did on Dr. Sarno. A guy with 7 herniated discs in his back was pain-free one month after just attending a lecture by Sarno. This is legitimate, and this book literally saved my life.

I loved this story.
Revisado: 12-07-16
This book was fast paced, had great characters, and had lots of actions. This is an EMP story that is suitable for younger audiences. The only bad thing was how short the book is, and it ends with things unresolved. The narrator did a great job also. But I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series! Lot's of Gory Action
Revisado: 12-07-16
This was a decent short story about a female group of mercenaries after a group of alien slavers attack. I really enjoyed this short story and listened to it straight through. It has lots of action, but the mercenary team often had to use their wits to solve a problem. I thought Nancy Peterson was a good narrator. She has good pacing and good range for her voices, even the male characters. I would recommend this to my friends. Historia
The Chrysallaman Empire made contact in 1947. Their mission was simple: find a suitable planet for colonization. Rich with land, minerals and water, Earth - HG-281- could boast only of a primitive race of defenders known as Humans, bugs who could be easily squashed by the might of a single Chrysallaman's mind. When a Chrysallaman ship is unexpectedly brought down in Roswell, New Mexico, the aliens return to their home planet to regroup, leaving behind a broken ship and a young alien boy.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I could not finish the audiobook due to the narrator. He has a decent enough voice, but his reading feels a little wooden/mechanical. I ended up just reading the ebook. I did like the story, though I am not a fan of cliff hanger endings.
What did you like best about this story?
The action and the humor.
How could the performance have been better?
If the narrator read a bit more casually.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Sure, I collect Zombie movies.

Revisado: 12-02-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Edge of Darkness to be better than the print version?
I did buy the ebook, but I have not read it yet, though I did receive this audiobook for free in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The books starts out with actions and remains fairly fast paced! I loved the use of tech in the book. It kind of reminded me of Deus Ex.
What does Shawn Compton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I think a good narrator can make a book better or worse based on their performance. Shawn has a good voice and decent range. I thought his pacing was good also.

The story was very unique and pulled me in immediately. I finished this audiobook in 2 days.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dredging Up Memories?
When the main character makes friends with Humphrey. He reminds me of "Wilson". :)

I like narrators with deep voices, and John Malone did a superb job. The main character in the book, Hank Walker, is from the South, and the narrator nails the accent. His pacing was great, and he has great range for his voices. I would definitely listen to another book from him.

Great writing!
Revisado: 11-10-16
What did you love best about Cara's Twelve?
This is a fantasy, but it is not over-the-top at all. It was also more adult than some fantasy books, with graphic sex and violence. I would not recommend this for YA.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Cara's Twelve?
I loved the medieval setting.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Anne Flosnik did a decent job narrating, though she speaks and pronounces words a bit differently.

Touching and unique sci-fi
Revisado: 11-09-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, this was an interesting story that takes place a long time after robot have conquered humanity, and is told from the perspective of a robot. This has tons of good humor and adventure.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that the machines in the book were not evil, like they are in most stories about robots taking over.
What about Rob Dircks’s performance did you like?
I am usually nervous about having an author narrate their own works, but Rob did great job! He has good voices, and good pacing.
