Enjoyable for fans of the movie
Revisado: 06-20-24
It’s pretty much the same plot as the movie but with additional background details about the characters that help to explain their behavior and humanize or devilize them more than the movie.

Historia
Satan's transformation from opaque functionary to chief antagonist is one of the most striking features of the development of Jewish theology in the Second Temple Period and beyond. Once no more than an "accuser" testing members of the human community, Satan, along with his demons, is presented by Jewish apocalyptic texts and the New Testament as a main source of evil in the world. In Satan and the Problem of Evil, noted scholar Archie Wright explores this dynamic in both its historical and theological trajectories.

Aimless and Dull
Revisado: 05-03-23
A long-winded description of different doctrines about evil figures in Judaism and Christianity with little commentary from the author until the brief conclusion. Probably useful for academics.

Historia
Most of us have instinctive evidence the world is ending - balmy December days, face-to-face conversation replaced with heads-to-screens zomboidism, a world at constant war, a political system in disarray. We hear some myths and lies so frequently that they feel like truths: Civilization is humankind’s greatest accomplishment. Progress is undeniable. Count your blessings. You’re lucky to be alive here and now. Civilized to Death counters the idea that progress is inherently good, arguing that the "progress" defining our age is analogous to an advancing disease.

Interesting
Revisado: 04-12-21
The premise that humankind has created an artificial environment for itself that is destroying the human psyche is very interesting and well supported by the text. I took a star off for his meandering digressions into psychedelics and assisted suicide.

Historia
In this eloquent and persuasive book, Neil Postman examines the deep and broad effects of television culture on the manner in which we conduct our public affairs, and how "entertainment values" have corrupted the very way we think. As politics, news, religion, education, and commerce are given less and less expression in the form of the printed word, they are rapidly being reshaped to suit the requirements of television.

Wish I had read/listened to this years ago
Revisado: 04-10-21
This book explained so much about our culture that I’ve been struggling to comprehend. It’s themes are just as applicable now in our social media dominated age as they were in the 80s when the book was written.

Historia
The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

Dreadful
Revisado: 11-10-20
I couldn’t finish this book. The storyline was predictable, the characters were poorly developed and it was boring. As a fan of horror and supernatural stories I was just disappointed. Don’t waste your audible credits!

Well done!
Revisado: 04-20-18
This book was not at all what I was expecting. I though it would mostly be about the horrors of working with and getting fired by President Trump. Instead it was a very thoughtful exposition of Comey’s thoughts about leadership and ethics wrapped inside of a memoir. I highly recommend this book.
