Cannot recommend
Revisado: 01-16-25
The female audio narrator, Saskia Maarleveld, did a fantastic job but the male performer does not match her skill; his narration is lackluster and he seems to lack professional reading ability required. Because of his inadequacy performance, the audiobook ends up being frustratingly disjointed, throwing me out of the narrative as a result and the story’s plot/character development wasn’t strong enough to compensate.

Historia
Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Second time reading it, years later; haunting, stayed with me since I first read it shortly after it was first published.

Historia
Molly Murphy - now Molly Sullivan - is a year into her marriage, expecting her first child, and confined to the life of a housewife. She’s restless and irritable in the enforced idleness of pregnancy and the heat of a New York summer in 1905. So when a trip to the post office brings a letter addressed to her old detective agency asking her to locate a missing Irish serving maid, Molly figures it couldn’t hurt to at least ask around, despite her promise to Daniel to give up her old career as a detective. On the same day, Molly learns that five babies have been kidnapped in the past month.

Problematic background noises & character devel’mt
Revisado: 04-13-23
Loud, distracting sounds, such as reader swallowing & heavily inhaling air, can be heard; it’s as if someone neglected to edit this installment in the series.
As other readers have noted, the character of Daniel is portrayed as highly disturbing; he’s verbally abusive, physically intimidating, and Molly admits more than once to being afraid of him. Their relationship is portrayed as one of codependence and potential domestic violence; it’s unfortunate the characters ended up married. Molly ends up deceiving Daniel, as usual; and the fact that she puts herself and her unborn child in such danger make for a very disturbing installment in this series.

Historia
Darby Thorne is a college student stranded by a blizzard at a highway rest stop in the middle of nowhere. She’s on the way home to see her sick mother. She’ll have to spend the night in the rest stop with four complete strangers. Then she stumbles across a little girl locked inside one of their parked cars. There is no cell phone reception, no telephone, no way out because of the snow, and she doesn’t know which one of the other travelers is the kidnapper.

Absurd
Revisado: 01-17-22
The audiobook narrator is fine, the author’s writing skill, IMO, is not. Implausible action & disgustingly violent detail.

Historia
Tessa was born with a gift. Through a simple touch she picks up pieces of others. A flash of color devours her - the only indication that she’s gained something new from another person. Red equals pain; purple, a talent; yellow, a premonition; orange, a painful memory; and blue, a pleasant one. Each flash blurs the lines between her inherent traits and those she’s acquired from others. Whenever she gains bits of something new, she loses more pieces of herself.

Narrator’s pacing makes story unintelligible
Revisado: 02-20-19
Sorry to say, had to return this audiobook (something only done once before & been member since 2008). Will exchange this for print or ebook format, eager to finish the story.
The narrator’s pacing is off so much I could not make sense of her lines. Adjusting the playback speed wasn’t helpful. Seemed as if she’s lacking needed experience; or she was obligated to read against her will & rebelled by paying no attention to pacing/inflection, it was that bad. (Ignore my obligatory star rating; story seems fine otherwise.)

Confusing
Revisado: 01-30-10
The meditation narrative in this audio makes no sense. This is the first audio I've been dissatisfied with, and I've been with Audible for years. I ordered this one because I am very satisfied with the "Rest & Sleep" by the same author, but this script is random nonsense.

Excellent "sleeping pill"
Revisado: 11-13-09
I am more of a chronic night owl than an insomniac, and I've tried many, many types of solutions that might help me unwind, fall asleep and keep on a schedule. I must say, this audio is amazing! Nothing I've tried has ever worked so well. I've had it a few weeks and have yet to make it all the way through without falling asleep! Even if I awaken in the night it will put me back to sleep. The more I listen to it the better it seems to work as I can actually "see" the visualizations now. The two speakers accents don't bother me, I like them in fact.
