My Favorite Book

This book has been my favorite for the last few years. I listened to it twice when I first found it. I like to listen to it around the holidays. Beverly Jenkins includes so much history. The characters are fully credible. They are very real to me. The narration is not the best except for the quasi-Creole accent of a few of the male characters. The narrator’s pauses are not well-timed or edited in quite a few places. Despite that, the story is worth a listen and definitely worth a self-read.

Interesting turn of events

I was caught off guard by the violence (a retributive murder of the story’s villain). I loved the reference to the Blakes, Julys, and Leveqs. Would love to see stories for Jamal and Bryce.

I really like that this book is set in my home state. I love that the male lead was a smart, clean cut guy who gets his lady. The narrator’s voice change for male characters was odd, but bearable.
