Historia
Jack Reacher wakes up alone, in the dark, handcuffed to a makeshift bed. His right arm has suffered some major damage. His few possessions are gone. He has no memory of getting there. The last thing Reacher can recall is the car he hitched a ride in getting run off the road. The driver was killed. His captors assume Reacher was the driver’s accomplice and patch up his wounds as they plan to make him talk. A plan that will backfire spectacularly . . .

Bye, Reacher!
Revisado: 04-12-25
I have read every Reacher book, and almost all of Lee Child’s writings. He’s excellent. Or rather, he was. This … this ….word soup was a long convoluted tale to nowhere that began not by grabbing the reader but by washing the reader’s face with dirty wet mop. Just bad and stupid.
Throughout the entire book, I kept screaming, “Why is Reacher even bothering?” We ALL know the real Reacher would have awakened and gone in search of a cup of coffee and never looked at these people again. What was his reason for staying? Why even get involved? Definitely not standard Reacher behavior.
And, as if that weren’t enough, there’s Scott Brick’s outrageously bad narration.
Dear Lord, why? Why must EVERYONE in this book speak in the same tone/pitch/pace as would a1960s-style bad guy bound to a post by barbed wire. You know…Like they’re grinding their teeth, curling their lips and tightly squeezing their butt cheeks together as the talk. That little gasp before a sentence begins. The chopping off of words. It’s so bad.
Lord.
Make.
It.
Stop!
Make this whole book stop. Im halfway through and i don’t think I’m gonna finish. I’m just too disappointed and annoyed.

PLEASE! Make Something —ANYTHING—Happen
Revisado: 07-17-24
Plods along for long periods of time. Worse yet, the plodding adds NOTHING to the plot (if that’s what you want to call this stringing together of words).
It’s the primary character, wringing her hands non-stop, reminiscing ad nauseam, about nothing. (Psst: FYI, there are NO thrills, no twists, no psychological cliffhangers, nothin’ honey.)
It’s … it’s … a Harlequin romance with one or two “naughty” words. Even the sex is flaccid, tepid, dull.
Start at the last chapter. You’ll thank me.

It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

(Slight spoilers!!)
Truly enjoyed it. Even though you know there will be twists, they aren’t the ones McFadden deals out! Enjoyable. Coulda done with less of the victim’s drama.
And it was long. But long is good sometimes.

Awful reading, worse story. Or the other way around.
Revisado: 03-02-24
Normally I like Preston and Child. Not today.
I listened while on the treadmill and would find myself spacing off for long periods of time, only to check back and realize the only thing that had changed was the narrator’s accent from horrible to unacceptably bad.
Pleeze keep your money. Hell, a refund is due everyone who bought this clunky stinker.

Great stories but….
Revisado: 01-23-24
No matter which set of stories you’re listening to, at the end of your episode. It jumps to 8.5. As if that is the next in line. So you might be listening to 6.2, waiting for 6.3 to start but it jumps immediately to 8.5. Not sure what’s wrong but it’s extremely frustrating.
Otherwise, I highly recommend the series. Detail, performance, and overall storytelling are excellent! I was hooked after the first couple of minutes.
