Historia
In layered prose and with thoughtful, accessible scholarship, Aslan narrates the history of religion as one long and remarkably cohesive attempt to understand the divine by giving it human traits and emotions. According to Aslan, this innate desire to humanize God is hardwired in our brains, making it a central feature of nearly every religious tradition. As Aslan writes, "Whether we are aware of it or not, and regardless if we are believers or not, what the vast majority of us think about when we think about God is a divine version of ourselves."

Outstanding "taste" of religious history.
Revisado: 05-10-21
Aslan concludes with a projection of panpsychism that as a Philosophical Materialists I find self serving. That is that God is all things and everything is God. He goes to great efforts , throughout the book, to describe the history of the religious experience expressed by man as the creation of God in the image of man, the Humanizing of the God(s).
Aslan concludes with "All existence is God, thus I am God", and as such all mater is God. Thus God is all and nothing is not God, the body of God.
I would suggest that an apriori that there is a God is why he reaches his conclusions. Nonetheless, if you do not start from that pov, and you hold to the universe as a godless reality, the journey this book takes you on is richly rewarding.
For Christians who do not understand the multiple gods that evolved into Yahweh, or how the Greek Logos philosophy affects the gospel of John which was written 100 years after his death, that history should revelatory.
For anyone interested in the religious experiences of our hominid kin from hundreads of thousands of years you need to read, hear, this book.

written before Covid-19.
Revisado: 05-01-20
As we live in pandemic times, this book reflects much of what is happening today, but was written before SARS-COV-2 started. This virus moves slower in some ways, is far more deadly while not as widespread all at once. The geopolitical impact of Covid-19 is no where near as dramatic but in context it is easy to see how the world could spin out of control.
Don't skip to the end to learn the source of this flu, but after you do Google and you'll understand the real threat this is.

One of the best universe you may escape into.
Revisado: 10-31-19
The science, or rather the science fiction, of this series is off putting for those seeking pleasure in potential future technologies. However, any such displeasure is clearly their loss.
The characters come to life and richly reward the reader, or listener, with a well developed universe that reflects British naval sensibilities from the times of life under sail.
If you seek fully developed, and internally consistent, story telling, then you will embrace this series as the pleasure it is.
One also will enjoy the outstanding qualities of the narration.

Instead, he receives a colonial distress beacon. Six months ago, they’d left people behind on a mission, all presumed dead. Do you like a retreat into an alternative, well constructed, universe? Well I do and this is one of my favorites.
Revisado: 07-25-19
Leave Earth and live in the New Earth universe for a while. Meet believable characters and various local alien species as well as some from the multiverse.
One can only hope that the narrator never changes.
The journey, if you enjoy this type of other world space opera, is as rewarding as any I’ve read. Personally, I cannot wait for more.

Any additional comments?
This is not a book about billion year old alien technology. That is a backdrop for a romance novel with "Large global conglomerates" bad guys putting our freinds and lovers at risk.

The Kresnov universe is a rich and imaginative
Revisado: 02-25-15
Where does Originator rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This one of my favorite series. I mostly listen to SyFi, and I like stories and characters that continue across multiple volumes. This is a good one.
What about Dina Pearlman’s performance did you like?
Pearlman has narrated all 6 of these books. Each character's voice is unique and consistent from the first book through this sixth installment. Listening to her performance allows the reader to be fully engaged by the story. Each voice, and the inflections in their speech, gives you the theatrical affect every audible listener loves.
Any additional comments?
This is the sixth book in this space opera. It is not great literature, but it is an engaging guilty pleasure and I cannot wait for the next installment. As with much SyFi, you have to bracket off the pseudo science and embrace this world as a reality you could live in. That investment is richly rewarded with strong characters whose back stories, whose lives, you feel fully invested in.

Put the battle at the end of the last book!
Revisado: 09-10-13
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
If you have read he other books, I guess you should read this one. However you will feel like the cost of this book is money stolen from you.
Any additional comments?
You get the fight, which has no surprises, then you hear the same merry "carp" you have heard in every other book in the series. The tenth book should be the last, but I'll bet you'll get more of the same. After this book I am not sure I care any more.
