Historia
Loretta Lynn and the late Patsy Cline are legends - country icons and sisters of the heart. For the first time ever, Loretta tells their story: a celebration of their music and their relationship up until Patsy's tragic and untimely death. Full of laughter and tears, this eye-opening, heartwarming memoir paints a picture of two stubborn, spirited country gals who'd be damned if they'd let men or convention tell them how to be. Set in the heady streets of the 1960s South, this nostalgia ride shows how Nashville blossomed into the city of music it is today.

Incredible Story
Revisado: 08-18-20
Whether you’re a longtime fan or recent convert, this autobio is highly recommended. The sense of time and place is vivid. The stories, and lessons learned, are alternately tear-jerking and belly laughingly hilarious. Loretta is REAL and her daughter narrates flawlessly.

Historia
Joe Talbert, Jr. has never once met his namesake. Now out of college, a cub reporter for the Associated Press in Minneapolis, he stumbles across a story describing the murder of a man named Joseph Talbert in a small town in southern Minnesota. Full of curiosity about whether this man might be his father, Joe is shocked to find that none of the town's residents have much to say about the dead man - other than that his death was long overdue....

Zach Villa is my new favorite narrator!
Revisado: 12-15-18
A good story by Allen Eskens, just not my favorite of his novels. I'm writing this review to rave about Zach Villa. He is what an audible narrator should be--he intonates and character shifts in a way that enhances, but doesn't distract, the listener. He is able to shift his voice to sound like a young man, young woman, older man, older woman, autistic man, erudite man, country rube, and so on. Yet, he does this without once sounding shrill or interrupting the melodic nature of having a story read to you. Also, he imparts a sense of gravitas without the "low talking" that some narrators resort to--"low talking" is so annoying because it's difficult to hear when a narrator lowers his/her voice, so the listener often has to rewind and adjust the volume, or just miss that part if driving.
I suppose everyone's different, but to me, the point of audible is having a book read aloud. The point is not listening to actors put on a performance of the narrative. (For my worst case example of this--listen to Tai-Pan, narrated by Gildart Jackson--I had to discontinue this audible due to the cacophonous nature of the performance). Please give us more audibles read by Zach Villa and similar narrators! Thanks!

Historia
Welcome to winter in Three Pines, a picturesque village in Quebec, where the villagers are preparing for a traditional country Christmas, and someone is preparing for murder. No one liked CC de Poitiers. Not her quiet husband, not her spineless lover, not her pathetic daughter - and certainly none of the residents of Three Pines. CC de Poitiers managed to alienate everyone, right up until the moment of her death. When Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, of the Sûreté du Quebec, is called to investigate, he quickly realizes he's dealing with someone quite extraordinary.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming.

Narration style is different...
Revisado: 01-27-18
This classic novel is outstanding. However, I wanted to suggest that other readers listen to a clip of the audio before purchasing. The reader is a gifted orator, no doubt about it. I didn’t care for the style, though—listening to this book is like listening to a play—there’s yelling, screaming, and all manner of grating voices. I listen to audible to hear a book read aloud—I found this reader’s performance to be a distraction to the story as opposed to enhancing it. Everyone’s different, though, and others may like it.

Sue Grafton hits another one out if the park!
Revisado: 09-12-17
Another tightly written Kinsey mystery, and Grafton doesn't disappoint. And Judy Kaye is great, as usual. Y is a little more graphic (with sexual violence) than the previous installments, but not in a way that will give you nightmares. Grafton must be nearing her 70's, but she hasn't lost a step.

This is the best psychology/self help book I've come across in a long time (I'm a psychologist, so I've read hundreds). The audio version is great bc the author reads it. You may want to purchase the hard copy too, for reference. I highly recommend this resource.
