Historia
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Decent Info, Not Amazing
Revisado: 01-24-25
The information in the book is useful but already being well into adulthood and having done a lot of self work already as an introvert I’d say there isn’t much new advice here. I’d recommend it for someone in their 20s.
It was also often quite painful to listen to, although validating (brought up unpleasant memories for me), and the reader I thought was perhaps a little too sympathetic with her narration.
Appreciated the effort, wish I could’ve gotten more applicable knowledge from this listen.

Historia
Recruited into the fundamentalist Quiverfull movement as a young wife, Tia Levings learned that being a good Christian meant following a list of additional life principles—a series of secret, special rules to obey. Being a godly and submissive wife in Christian Patriarchy included strict discipline, isolation, and an alternative lifestyle that appeared wholesome to outsiders. Women were to be silent, “keepers of the home.” A Well-Trained Wife is an unforgettable memoir about a woman's race to save herself and her family and details the ways that extreme views can manifest in a marriage.

Beautifully Written & Read
Revisado: 11-05-24
Though I had to take breaks while listening due to the disturbing content, I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir as it was written with a striking and visceral sense of emotion and place. Beautiful prose. The author reads it herself very clearly, and her story unfolds with many facets by the conclusion thanks to her hard-won compassion and open-minded perspective. Brave and generous.

Historia
Studying zoology made Lucy Cooke feel like a sad freak. Not because she loved spiders or would root around in animal feces: All her friends shared the same curious kinks. The problem was her sex. Being female meant she was, by nature, a loser. Since Charles Darwin, evolutionary biologists have been convinced that the males of the animal kingdom are the interesting ones—dominating and promiscuous, while females are dull, passive, and devoted. But Cooke tells a new story.

He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them. Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York.

I loved this book so much I bought a hard copy as well to have the recipes. It’s filled with humor, entertaining stories, poignant memories and interesting food knowledge. Stanley Tucci also reads it himself which is an added delight. I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommend to food lovers, travelers, and anyone who likes laughing, really. An absolute joy.

Historia
Lauren Fleshman has grown up in the world of running. One of the most decorated collegiate athletes of all time and a national champion as a pro, she was a major face of women’s running for Nike before leaving to shake up the industry with feminist running brand Oiselle and now coaches elite young female runners. Every step of the way, she has seen the way that our sports systems—originally designed by men, for men and boys—fail young women and girls as much as empower them. Written with heart and verve, Good for a Girl is a joyful love letter to the running life.

An unflinchingly honest account of a woman’s journey through sport, including ups, downs and personal feelings set against a backdrop of thorough research in sports medicine that is finally focusing on females. Timely and yet long overdue.

The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

Worth Finishing, Take what’s Useful to You
Revisado: 01-23-24
This was a decent listen. The author references many scientific studies and I found some to be more compelling than others, but he makes a lot of solid points throughout the book and there is a fair amount of reliable information overall that may be useful if you’re interested in this topic.
I definitely recommend listening to the WHOLE audiobook though, because although there is some repetition towards the end Dr. Li also includes a few general arguments to bring the scientific research and subject matter together which I really appreciated.

1914, Fiji: 25-year-old Akal Singh would rather be anywhere but this tropical paradise—or, as he calls it, “this godforsaken island.” After a promising start to his police career in his native India and Hong Kong, Akal has been sent to Fiji as punishment for a humiliating professional mistake. Lonely and grumpy, Akal plods through his work and dreams of getting back to Hong Kong. When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

I didn’t want it to end! Filled with big laughs, many interesting facts, oddball accounts (at least to non-Danes ;)) and touching moments. Quite well written, covers a wide range of topics while following the author’s story. Perfectly paced, narration was excellent. I rarely give a full 5 stars, this one’s worth it. :)
