Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Quite The Juxtaposition
Revisado: 12-29-19
To have your ears filled with such sad stories and injustice is very tough, but this book is so entertaining, interesting and educational that you won’t want to stop listening. It’s strange to enjoy something so sad so much. Mr. Stevenson is a wonderful writer and narrator.

Historia
In lyric, accessible prose, Carlo Rovelli invites us to consider questions about the nature of time that continue to puzzle physicists and philosophers alike. For most listeners, this is unfamiliar terrain. We all experience time, but the more scientists learn about it, the more mysterious it appears. We think of it as uniform and universal, moving steadily from past to future, measured by clocks. Rovelli tears down these assumptions one by one, revealing a strange universe where, at the most fundamental level, time disappears.

Deeply profound
Revisado: 12-15-18
I’m going to start this book over right now. There’s so much packed in the short book that you find yourself blown away and still ponder the previous statement as he continues to speak. I did a lot of rewinding. Definitely more so than usual.
Benedict Cumberbatch was great as well.

Historia
In a book that is both groundbreaking and accessible, Daniel C. Dennett, whom Chet Raymo of The Boston Globe calls "one of the most provocative thinkers on the planet", focuses his unerringly logical mind on the theory of natural selection, showing how Darwin's great idea transforms and illuminates our traditional view of humanity's place in the universe. Dennett vividly describes the theory itself and then extends Darwin's vision with impeccable arguments to their often surprising conclusions, challenging the views of some of the most famous scientists of our day.

Enjoyable-
Revisado: 06-20-18
I found this book very enjoyable. As this is not Dennett’s field he has to explain how he comes to his conclusions and who helped him get to them. This helps a laymen like me. He explains each section of the book very clearly and gives you an idea where he’s headed. It would be helpful to have read Dawkins prior to this book. It’s a good recap of the selfish gene, blind watchmaker and the extended phenotype.
Dennett is a philosopher and sometimes he can be a little long winded in his examples before making his ultimate point. The only truly annoying thing about this book is each reference cited is spoken out at the end of the citation ie “Dawkins 1978 page 52”

Historia
Richard Dawkins' brilliant reformulation of the theory of natural selection has the rare distinction of having provoked as much excitement and interest outside the scientific community as within it. His theories have helped change the whole nature of the study of social biology, and have forced thousands to rethink their beliefs about life.

Easy To Understand
Revisado: 11-10-17
I'm a laymen and I found it easy to follow along with. At times I did have to pause and look up a few of the terms or processes he was speaking of. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learned an incredible amount from it.

Pissed me off.. In a good way
Revisado: 05-09-17
I liked how she contrasted the success she enjoyed being a product of the middle class in the 60's and 70's with the struggles of today's middle class. She used a few people's stories and added the legislative underlying reasons to what caused their failures.
I learned a bit more about the inner workings of lobbyists and special interest groups as well.
I was angry most of the time I was listening to this book. A lot of time shaking my head in disgust. But I feel more informed and more motivated than I did prior to listening to it.

I'd recommend this book to people who want a basic understanding of the cosmos and maybe as a base to move into more complex books.
I enjoyed this book very much.
