Historia
Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Just awful
Revisado: 04-12-19
The plot is very interesting but the female protagonist was absolutely horrible! I’m sure it was the writers intention for her to seem strong and driven but she came across as brazenly stupid and whiny.
**Spoilers**
On multiple occasions, she stupidly puts herself in situations that she needs to be rescued from, including rape and prostitution. She wants to go to a “theater” they discover her father went to. The policeman tells her she cannot because it’s not a safe place for her to be. She refuses to listen until finally he agrees but instead of picking her up that evening, he goes without her. She gets angry at being left behind so she decides to go alone. Once there, she allows herself to be lured into a room from which she needs rescuing! When the policeman shows up and rescues her, she isn’t thankful, she blames him for not taking her. She is completely defiant to the person who is trying to keep her safe, then when she needs to be rescued, she blames him?! Several times the male protagonist makes valid arguments as to why she should listen to him but she refuses with almost blind willfulness. She never has any reason for refusing to listen, she just defies him if he doesn’t do what she wants him to do. I support strong female characters but this character was anything but. She was defiant, arrogant and whiny. Honestly, she was a bratty little **it that wasn’t strong, she was childish. I couldn’t finish the book, which really stinks because the story was very interesting.

Historia
Polygamy. Incest. Vampires. Murder. There are words you might expect to read together in the plot of a gothic horror novel, but not so long ago, in the usually quiet town of Fresno, California, those words were the headlines. What do they have to do with each other? The answer to that question is one man: Marcus Wesson. Chances are you have heard of cults, such as the Manson Family, and Jonestown, but this might be your first time hearing the story of a vampire cult led by Marcus Wesson. The members of this cult were members of Wesson’s own family.

Worst narration ever heard from Audible
Revisado: 10-15-18
The story was interesting however the narrator was absolutely terrible. This is by far the shortest audio book I own but it seemed to take an eternity listening to the narrators ridiculous speech cadence. I’ll never purchase another story read by this person again. Try the sample first if you are interested in hearing this book, I wish I had. Just know it never gets any better and changing the speed doesn’t help either.
