Everyone Should Listen to this Book
Revisado: 04-22-15
This is probably the best book I've listened to on Audible, and I've listened to a lot of books. What makes this book so outstanding to me is that it is interspersed with live speeches, sermons, and interviews, some of which are in there entirety. One aspect that is often neglected when hearing others talk about Dr. King.is his deep and abiding faith in Jesus. Well, you can't escape it when he speaks in his own words. This is a man who loved Jesus deeply and sought to live out Jesus vision of societal change through nonviolent prophetic action.
Also, the man was flat out brilliant. When we make someone an icon it's easy to miss the depth of who they were as an individual. Hearing some of Dr. Kings sermons to his congregation helped me to realize what a towering intellect he was. As a pastor it inspires me to not dumb down my theology. It also shows that people appreciate and will act upon a clear and compelling vision.
Another aspect of the book is it's continued relevance in a society that is still trying to find its way in terms of race. Oh, that Dr. King had not been assassinated where might we be today? I can't say enough good things about this book. It is a treasure. Just think if we could have heard Lincoln's actual voice expressing his many ideas. This is what we have in this book. Spend 9 hours with Dr. King it is well worth it.!!!

Historia
This concise audiobook is based on Mr. Drucker's summary of The Effective Executive done at the request of Harvard Business Review and is now one of their best selling published works. This article is a perfect way to learn about the subject broadly in a short period of time. Unlike many articles of this kind, summarizing a book's contents, this article was written and crafted by the author himself.

Wow! Many tried to tell me that a pastor should have major in business. I didn't believe them and find myself regretting that decision often. However with Audible I've been giving myself a business education. I found every sentence of this very powerful read to be chocked full of meaning and insight. A must read for anyone who wants to be more professional no matter what their business.
Short enough to be listened to in its entirety while taking the kids to one of their many activities.

Completely Enjoyable!
Revisado: 04-02-13
Fellowship is my favorite of the trilogy and Rob's reading is off the charts. He uses different voices for each of the characters. I never found myself zoning out during his reading. When my family takes long road trips we always pick a book to listen to and this is one of their favorites.

The Challenge of Jesus poses a double-edged challenge: to grow in our understanding of the historical Jesus within the Palestinian world of the first century, and to follow Jesus more faithfully into the postmodern world of the 21st century.

The Cliff Notes of Jesus and The Victory of God
Revisado: 04-02-13
If you don't have the time to read Wright's more scholarly work Jesus and the Victory of God then The Challenge of Jesus contains all of the incredible ideas and insights that the larger work contains but in a much more accessible version.
I will listen to this book many times.

God's Glory Revealed in an Earthen Vessel
Revisado: 04-02-13
This biography gives us a very human look at a man trying to follow Jesus. That over simplifies what I want to say. C.S. Lewis lived a very complicated life. In his life you see the broken nature of humanity and the sin nature that all those of us who follow Jesus struggle with. Yet in spite of his contradictions, or maybe precisely because of them, God uses this man in an incredibly powerful manner. I found hope in the fact that if God can use Lewis in spite of his many struggles he could use me as well.
I've been following Jesus for over 26 years and Mere Christianity was the second "Christian book" I read after deciding to be a Christ follower. Since that time I've read almost everything he has written. Lewis' books have had an indescribable influence on my Christian life. Understanding a little more about his life just makes his written words all the more powerful.
I'm also a huge Tolkien fan and though I knew Tolkien was influential in C.S. Lewis' conversion to see how instrumental Lewis was in the Lord of the Rings was a treat. This is well worth the listen.

Historia
“Jesus - the Jesus we might discover if we really looked,” explains Wright, “is larger, more disturbing, more urgent than we had ever imagined. We have successfully managed to hide behind other questions and to avoid the huge, world-shaking challenge of Jesus’s central claim and achievement. It is we, the churches, who have been the real reductionists. We have reduced the kingdom of God to private piety; the victory of the cross to comfort for the conscience; Easter itself to a happy, escapist ending after a sad, dark tale. Piety, conscience, and ultimate happiness are important...."

Simply Brilliant
Revisado: 04-02-13
I have read most everything N.T. Wright has written so I'm a huge fan. Having said that I think this is his clearest Christology yet. Having reflected on Jesus and his ministry in such amazing books as The Challenge of Jesus, Jesus and the Victory of God, and When God became King you would think what could Wright possibly add to what he has already written? In Simply Jesus Wright brings together all of the insights of his previous works in one concise read. This is a book I will listen to many times. I would recommend this book for anyone who is wanting to grow in their understanding of Jesus, his ministry, his life, death, and resurrection. It is a book that will both challenge those who might be unfamiliar with the life of Jesus and those who have been following him for decades.
The narration was top notch. The narrator's voice made you think you might actually be listening to Wright's voice over a cup of coffee or a spot of tea in Wright's case.
