More of the same. Just filler
Revisado: 10-16-18
I agree with many others. This installment is entertaining, but the series has really stalled out. No over arching plot advancement. No interesting new lore. Just the usual “holy crap” problem soon addressed by a crazy idea and some heroics. Skippy is great, of course, but the formula is growing old. I really hope the author steps up for the next volume and finally begins to deliver on the Old One mysteries and Skippy origin stuff.

Solid, unremarkable.

Hard to recommend. Go get the Rhiyra Chronicles or the Ahn trilogy (quadrology??) if you want a good fantasy listen.
Kept waiting for something really gripping and interesting to happen, but it just fizzles. Fairly predictable too. Third part , because of politics and other characters, is far more interesting than first two, which kind of drag in places.
The mystery of the hero’s power is drawn out for a while, and then explained without much fanfare. In the end, it feels kind of pointless. He has a superpower and is top of the heap and that’s that. No real suspense.
Would be more interesting if the author had pursued some dangling threads about the source and history of the power and it’s connection to our hero, but they aren’t explored at all.

Historia
Young Countess Meliara swears to her dying father that she and her brother will defend their people from the growing greed of the king. That promise leads them into a war for which they are ill-prepared, which threatens the very people they are trying to protect. But war is simple compared to what follows, in peacetime. Meliara is summoned to live at the royal palace, where friends and enemies look alike, and intrigue fills the dance halls and the drawing rooms.

Really wanted to listen to this book. Tried three times. Just can’t get past the narrator’s childlike voice. It’s really distracting.
Going to seek a refund and read the dead tree version instead.

Historia
The Mind of the Market will change the way we think about the economics of everyday life. Drawing on research from neuroeconomics, Michael Shermer explores what brain scans reveal about bargaining, snap purchases, and how trust is established in business. Utilizing experiments in behavioral economics, Shermer shows why people hang on to losing stocks and failing companies, why business negotiations often disintegrate into emotional tit-for-tat disputes, and why money does not make us happy.

Disappointing on many levels
Revisado: 06-24-13
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The behavioral psychology info was quite interesting, but I feel the author never really tied any of it to the market or economics. There were some ties pointed out, for sure, but certainly not enough to support the ostensible aim of this book.
What didn’t you like about the narrator’s performance?
TERRIBLE! Authors should not narrate their own books. Disjointed sentences, poor flow, dismal delivery. I genuinely think this book would have gained a full star had it been read by a professional or had I simply read the dead tree version.

Amazing

I rarely listen to an audiobook more than 12-15 hours long. Heck, I give up after 2-3 hours if the book isn't truly engrossing. On top of that, I find that fiction books often make worse audiobooks than nonfiction.
That said -- I listened to every minute of this book and wanted more! I was enthralled and entertained the whole way through. I cannot believe it was 40+ hours!
The first thing I did when I was finished was download the sequel (World w/o End)and start in on another masterful 40+ hour story.
Do not be afraid of this book's length. It is excellent material! The narrator is phenomenal too. He has a great voice, consistent characters, and excellent emotion.
If you like the historical medieval or fantasy genres (no fantasy here though) you WILL enjoy this book.
