Historia
Mattie can't remember a time before she and William lived alone on a mountain together. She must never make him upset. But when Mattie discovers the mutilated body of a fox in the woods, she realizes that they’re not alone after all. There’s something in the woods that wasn’t there before, something that makes strange cries in the night, something with sharp teeth and claws. When three strangers appear on the mountaintop looking for the creature in the woods, Mattie knows their presence will anger William. Terrible things happen when William is angry.

Back and better than ever
Revisado: 09-24-24
Adding flight upped the ante to 11. This book starts directly after the first and keeps the high octane pace the whole time. The characters and the readers get a couple instances to catch their breath in some heartfelt scenes between characters on farms and military bases, but for the most parts it’s a continuous chase scene from location to location with blood spraying on the walls. Let’s just say, you’ll fly through it as you run for your life with our little band of misfits.

To make matters worse, Mia Samuels, the girl of Will’s dreams, is dating his worst enemy, the most sadistic upperclassman at Shadeland High. Will’s troubles, however, are just beginning. Because one of the nation’s most notorious criminals - the Moonlight Killer - has escaped from prison and is headed straight toward Will’s hometown.

Coming of age creature feature
Revisado: 09-24-24
I loved this book! One of the best coming of age stories since IT. Janz makes you fall in love with the characters and then lets you know that no one is safe. Real consequences even for the MCs. The Children are terrifying and used effectively, but it’s the relationships that keep you reading and praying for safety.

Happy Haunting
Revisado: 09-24-24
I listened to the audio version of this story and it is intense! I loved how it unraveled from the make believe to reality. How the haunting followed a trajectory set in place at the beginning. The characters were all great especially the dog. I wish there had been a bit more with the MC’s ability, but that’s a small complaint in comparison to how much I enjoyed the growing tension and drama.
Definitely suggest this read! Happy Haunting!

Love ART and Murder Bot Together
Revisado: 02-23-24
I missed ART from the moment Murder Bot left him before so his return, although awkward at first, was a breath of fresh air. Love the narrator just as much as the story. As always, a wonderful pleasure!

Historia
In a powerful and gripping debut, Rachel Aviv raises fundamental questions about how we understand ourselves in periods of crisis and distress. Drawing on deep, original reporting as well as unpublished journals and memoirs, Aviv writes about people who have come up against the limits of psychiatric explanations for who they are. Animated by a profound sense of empathy, Aviv’s exploration is refracted through her own account of living in a hospital ward at the age of six and meeting a fellow patient with whom her life runs parallel—until it no longer does.

Shines a Refreshing Light
Revisado: 03-22-23
I find this book shined a refreshing light on psychological traumas and how we throw medicine at it rather than stopping to listen and respect the person who is suffering from it.

Wanted So Badly to Like it
Revisado: 11-22-22
We listened to the end, but the whole time felt like we were just trying to get to the end because we had made it so far already hoping it would get better. About half way through it did take an upward turn, but then droned on and on...
You could tell he wanted you to be invested in this or that, but we never felt drawn in by much of anything that was happening. The things we did feel drawn to he dropped and hammered over and over again the points he wanted to make. Jumping back and forth in time made the book feel like purgatory because we had to listen to how the same two people would die/had died repeatedly.
As far as the narrator, which is the author, he put emphasis on words that rhymed which made it feel like a poem that suddenly stops rhyming, which would then jerk you out of the cadence of the words.
The Book Thief is one of our favorite books of all time. This hit the opposite end of the spectrum for me. It was a book that could have been great, but felt like a rough draft was rushed to print after his previous success.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

One of the Best Books And Narrations
Revisado: 09-02-22
Truly wonderful in all it's forms! The way he manipulates the words to make death more relatable and heart breaking... ugh! I hate how much I loved listening to this book! For there will be few that reach it's level in my lifetime.
