Historia
Captain Vlora is a powder mage in the Adran army. Once the favored, adopted daughter of the field marshal, she is now a pariah amongst those she called her family. Her superior officers would like nothing more than to send her to a far off posting and forget about her, but no one is exempt when there is a war - and powder mages are desperately needed. When a traitorous guard captain goes on the run with information that could harm the war effort, Vlora is sent on his trail.

Good but not worth eight dollars
Revisado: 11-21-24
The Novella was pretty decent and entertaining, but to be honest, it didn’t really add depth to the characters at all. Great read if it was free, but I don’t think it’s worth paying for. I’m really enjoying the rest of the series though.

Historia
Stretched to his limit, Tamas is relying heavily on his few remaining powder mages, including the embittered Taniel, a brilliant marksman who also happens to be his estranged son, and Adamat, a retired police inspector whose loyalty is being tested by blackmail. But when gods are involved....Now, as attacks batter them from within and without, the credulous are whispering about omens of death and destruction. Just old peasant legends about the gods waking to walk the earth. No modern educated man believes that sort of thing. But they should....

Reminiscent of MistBorn
Revisado: 11-18-24
I really liked this book. The characters and setting were pretty good, but my favorite thing about the book is the world building and unique magic system. I thought this book was reminiscent of Mist Born, though not because he stole or copied anything. Brian McClellan created his own thing and did a great job with it. I have high hopes for the rest of the series.

Really fun read.
Revisado: 12-20-22
Well, I can’t say this is the very best book I’ve ever read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has all of the common fantasy tropes, but the world building is good if not simple. The main reasons I like this book are that the characters are good, the plot is interesting, and there is plenty of action.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

More of them same.
Revisado: 07-28-22
Let me start by saying that I have read and loved every one of Joe’s books up to this one. However, this one really seemed like a stretch. I feel like nothing new happened. Some of the characters are good, but none of them are like the originals. Nothing in this book has me wanting to come back for more.

Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

A must read
Revisado: 11-25-20
This book is so long! I'm so glad I finally got around to reading it though. I really enjoyed it. I've read and watched so many apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic stories in the last 20 years that I thought it would be important to read one that came out much earlier and that many must have drawn inspiration from. As of my reading the book was 42 years old. And honestly I feel like it has held up really well.
Despite it's length I never got board or tired of the book. I felt that it was a a well paced and compelling story. I don't think King did amazing with all of the characters but he did pretty good over all, some better than others. I would certainly say the characters are realistic, I just didn't draw any strong connections with any of them. I feel like Harold Lauder is the best character and he drew the most emotion out of me. I really hated him!
I've only read a few other Stephen King books and I think the reason he is so popular and why this book was so good is because he is such an excellent writer and story teller. However, and I'm sure many would disagree with me, I don't think he is a good world builder. I don't think he did a great job with the main antagonists character or story. I think some of it was done that way on purpose but I didn't like it. I also didn't love that the climax seemed to come about more by chance than through anyone's meaningful struggle.
So obviously there were a few things I didn't love about it, but overall I think its a great book and would recommend to any fan of fiction; sci-fi, fantasy or otherwise.

On par with the first.
Revisado: 08-11-20
I'd say the second book is on par with the first, it was just as good which can be hard for second books at trilogy though the first book isn't the most amazing book I've read. I enjoyed the characters the setting in the story though none of them are on an epic level.
