Kept me guessing to the end
Revisado: 10-29-22
As a mystery story, it was excellent, funny, and entertaining. There were enough red herrings to make several characters as potential suspects, but the ultimate revelation was very satisfying.
As a description of what it’s like to be a magician at a magic convention, it was spot on. Recommended for magicians and non-magicians.

Historia
This landmark book is for those of us who prefer words to equations; this is the story of the ultimate quest for knowledge, the ongoing search for the secrets at the heart of time and space. Its author, Stephen W. Hawking, is arguably the greatest mind since Einstein. From the vantage point of the wheelchair, where he has spent the last 20 years trapped by Lou Gehrig's disease, Professor Hawking has transformed our view of the universe. A Brief History of Time is Hawking's classic introduction to today's most important scientific ideas.

Gets complicated fast
Revisado: 07-13-19
The book starts out very interesting describing the universe in layman‘s terms. But then about midway through the book, it becomes quite complicated and difficult to understand. And then, at the end of the book, it gets a little bit easier again. And the review of scientists in history was very interesting also.

Told in language we all can understand, A Brief History of Time plunges into the exotic realms of black holes and quarks, of antimatter and “arrows of time,” of the big bang and a bigger God — where the possibilities are wondrous and unexpected. Stephen Hawking brings us closer to the ultimate secrets at the very heart of creation.

Historia
Eli's trip to London with his uncle Harry quickly turns homicidal when the older magician finds himself accused of murder. A second slaying does little to take the spotlight off Harry. Instead it's clear someone is knocking off Harry's elderly peers in bizarrely effective ways. But who? The odd gets odder when the prime suspect appears to be a bitter performer with a grudge who committed suicide over 30 years before. While Eli struggles to prove his uncle's innocence - and keep them both alive - he finds himself embroiled in a battle of his own.

Perfect Mystery
Revisado: 09-23-18
Just like all of the Eli Marks Mysteries, this was perfectly delightful. It was a good mystery that kept me guessing, and it was funny. As a magician, I appreciated the respect given to Magic. As a writer, I appreciated the way in which the author cleverly dropped in important clues that seemed to be only entertaining tidbits at a time.

After spotting a dead body in the projection booth of the movie theater next door, Eli is pulled into the hunt for the killer. As he attempts to puzzle out a solution to this classic locked room mystery, he must deal with a crisis of a more personal nature: the appearance of a rival magician who threatens Eli's faith in himself as a performer and his relationship with his girlfriend. Delightful and Inspiring
Revisado: 12-19-17
JG understands the world of magic and what it’s like to be a magician. Sometimes magicians are considered jokers not deserving of the respect that serious performers should receive but the author has done an excellent job of referencing the long history of artists who have devoted their lives to perfecting an art form that can truly create Awe and Wonder like no other performance art.
The author was also able to understand what it means to be one of those artists who observes a magical master more skilled than himself and experience the competing feelings of Inspiration to emulate and Depression at the futility of ever achieving similar perfection.
So, besides understanding the world of Magic, Gaspard has also written another excellent mystery that kept me guessing until the end. And that is another type of magic I envy.

A second GREAT story
Revisado: 12-10-17
I often laugh out loud listening to the Eli Marks stories. The main character is thoroughly likable and believable.
The mystery kept me guessing until the end. And the side stories with other characters added to the overall story making it a full, rich novel.

Historia
The life of a magician isn't all kiddie shows and card tricks. Sometimes it's murder. Especially when magician Eli Marks very publicly debunks a famed psychic, and said psychic ends up dead. The evidence, including a bloody King of Diamonds playing card (one from Eli's own Ambitious Card routine), directs the police right to Eli.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 11-29-17
The story was well plotted.
The characters were unique and believable. Eli Marks is a funny real character that I would follow through any adventures!
The performance of the narrator was great. I had no cringe moments while listening to the various voices.
Highly recommended!
