Historia
Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Here two men are destined for an explosive collision: John Sutter, Wall Street lawyer, holding fast to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seizes his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws Sutter and his regally beautiful wife, Susan, into his violent world.

Great Narration
Revisado: 10-08-10
The narrator of this book, Christian Rummel, does a great job with all the various accents in the book. It made it easy to listen to and easy to keep track of the characters. It's complicated to explain all the American cultural aspects of this book, but let's just say there are a lot of them, and I'm glad I listened to it.

Historia
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

A beautiful story
Revisado: 10-08-10
At first I thought the narrator of this book, Jenna Lamia, was going to be hard to listen to for the entire book because she has a very child like voice, but as new characters were introduced, the depth of her abilities became apparent. She's very talented at bringing the various characters to life, and I have now looked for other books narrated by her. I loved this story. It warmed my heart.

Enjoyed most of these short mysteries
Revisado: 01-25-10
Most of these mysteries are gripping and interesting, and I enjoyed listening to them. There were a few that I didn't care for, but in the absence of other new novels by Faye Kellerman, this was worth listening to.

Historia
In the opening pages of Jamie Ford's stunning debut, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Henry Lee comes upon a crowd gathered outside the Panama Hotel, once the gateway to Seattle's Japantown. It has been boarded up for decades, but now the new owner has made an incredible discovery: the belongings of Japanese families, left when they were rounded up and sent to internment camps during World War II. As Henry looks on, the owner opens a Japanese parasol.

Good, once I got into it.
Revisado: 01-25-10
I initially had a hard time getting into this story, and thought I would need to go back and listen to the beginning again, but I decided to just keep listening, and it was an excellent mystery, with ties back into the past and all the things that make it fun to read detective mysteries.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

I loved this story
Revisado: 01-25-10
I normally limit my audio book listening to the gym and long car rides, but this one is so excellent, I had to finish it at home. Wonderful insight into the relationships between white households and black household help in the 1960s. Sad, happy, emotional.

Revisado: 01-25-10
I love Margaret Frazer's novels about Dame Frevisse. If you're at all interested in history and what peoples' lives were like in England in the 1400s, you'll enjoy these books. This one intelligent, exciting, and fascinating.
