Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

The performance was good. I would listen to the narrator again. The story did not hold my interest.

Historia
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

Clever and delightfully funny
Revisado: 08-25-16
I found this book through a two for one sale, and I'm very glad I took a chance on the author and the narrator.
Alice Clayton is a winner with witty dialog and funny action descriptions. This book was definitely entertaining. I'll read or listen to more of her books.
Shayna Thibodeaux was a perfect narrator for this story. I'd love to hear her read the next books in the series. I'll watch for her name.

Narrator overplayed
Revisado: 08-25-16
I enjoyed the story although the narrator was distracting.
Mary Robinette-Kowel has a lovely reading voice. Had she relaxed into the read rather than trying so hard to give each character a distinctive voice I could have happily gotten lost in the story. My imagination is capable of creating character voices if given a chance. If MRK did a redo, I would gladly listen.

Historia
The Game of Kings: First in The Lymond Saga. It's August 1547, and unrest in Europe is rife. Scotland, nominally ruled by 4 year old Queen Mary, is heaving with intrigue - and hot gossip. The notorious rebel, Crawford of Lymond, is rumoured to be back in Edinburgh. The city is sealed, but such things never worry 'Lymond'. As usual, he leaves a characteristic trail of hue and cry, vanished contraband, and a drunken sow.

Narrators voice is too mature for Lymond.
Revisado: 08-24-15
Gillies' voice works for some of the characters but not for Lymond or Will. Gillies' maturer voice just didn't work for me.
