Unpleasantly disappointing (from a Scudder fan)
Revisado: 11-02-15
Any additional comments?
I'm surprised how many peopled loved this book. I guess I made the mistake of coming into it with high expectations. I'm a fan fan of Block's Matthew Scudder series, and expected that level of work from Hitman. Not that I expected the books to be alike, but I did expect Hitman to contain some of the elements that make the Scudder series so good - BELIEVABLE characters, an empathetic protagonist, attention to the setting, complex and ongoing character conflicts, etc. So if you're a Scudder fan - proceed with caution.

INCREDIBLE
Revisado: 03-19-15
Where does V for Vendetta rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Tops among contemporary fiction.
Which scene was your favorite?
The climax.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ALERT!!
The people conquer the tyrannical government with very little (mass) violence. What a powerful idea that is counter to most "revolution" plots.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
Fans of the movie - the source material is a must. INCREDIBLE performance. Absolutely perfect.
Better than the film.

Historia
With its brilliant and brutal portrayal of the Corleone family, The Godfather burned its way into our national consciousness. This unforgettable saga of crime and corruption, passion and loyalty continues to stand the test of time, as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld. A #1 New York Times bestseller in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic was turned into the incomparable film of the same name, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is the original classic that has been often imitated, but never matched.

Absolutely.

Like me, you may be thinking: "I have the movie memorized, should I really check out the source material?" And the answer is: "ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY." There is not much I can say that hasn't been said:
- Incredible performance
- An absolute MUST for fans of the film (the book clarifies some plot holes that always bothered me)

Excellent book - awful performance!
Revisado: 03-19-15
Would you consider the audio edition of A Walk Among the Tombstones to be better than the print version?
No.
What did you like best about this story?
Real characters, no cheap gimmicks.
Would you be willing to try another one of Mark Hammer’s performances?
NO!
Any additional comments?
What a great work. Character driven - doesn't rely on cheap actions or plot twists. After watching the movie and deciding to check out the source material, I now realize how much of a disgrace the movie is.
However, this particular performance is agonizingly slow. His interpretation of some characters is dumbfounding. Often times during well written dialogue I wanted to scream "GET ON WITH IT!" The book is read in a maddeningly slow tempo which really detracts from certain scenes. Read/listen to the book but try to find another edition.

Revisado: 02-09-15
Any additional comments?
Maybe I'm being petty but once you make an anti-science comment, DONE! Ziglar ridiculed evolution to make an analogy and I have no tolerance for that nonsense. Also the book was just to much piss and vinegar enthusiasm instead of real substance. If you can ever get your hands on his material, check out David Sandler.

Historia
Herbert West-Reanimator is an outstanding horror story by H. P. Lovecraft that was first serialized in February through July 1922 in the amateur publication Home Brew. The story was the basis of the 1985 horror film Re-Animator and its sequels, in addition to numerous other adaptations in various media. You want zombies? Real zombies? Listen to this because Lovecraft was one of the very first and he got zombies right: Scary, evil, implacable and most definitely out to get you.

Revisado: 02-09-15
Any additional comments?
I often times like to read the source material for my favorite movies - especially shorts and novellas. Although this short is to be taken seriously (unlike the campy movie), it and the movie are great companions. If you are a fan of the movie, or just Lovecraft, check this one out. Definitely worth the 90 minutes.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Surprisingly Underwhelmed
Revisado: 02-08-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe - depending on what you are expecting out of science fiction...
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Great story with good imagination. However it suffers from poor execution. The characters were incredibly shallow. None of them longed for anything. You couldn't empathize with any of them. No emotional involvement is compelled. The dialogue was very mediocre and there wasn't much conflict. WORST OF ALL - the door is WIDE OPEN for some social commentary on war, whether the stance was going to be one of bleeding heart liberalism or of a Bush sympathizer. If you think you're going to get some thematic content regarding war - you're wrong. All of the known intelligent life in the universe is killing each other instead of learning from each other and, meh, no big deal. Not worth talking about.
What aspect of William Dufris’s performance would you have changed?
The attempts of humor in the dialogue were pretty futile, and the performance made them worse.
Could you see Old Man's War being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes. It's shortfalls as a novel actually lend themselves to the story being reborn as a mega-budget action movie directed by Michael Bay (since his movies have no characters and awful story-telling). The alien races and action sequences would do nicely on the big screen.
Any additional comments?
If you're a classic sci-fi person, leave this book alone. You'll be severely disappointed. The story is entertaining, but it's not about much. But if you're into pop fantasy, you'll probably like it.

Incredible book. One of my favorite non-fiction / Sci-Fi stories. The only downside is that it I'm now sickened of the motion picture's interpretation of the source material. I once thought that it was a decent movie.

Historia
A short story by Philip K. Dick, first published in Space Science Fiction Magazine, in May 1953. A nuclear war between the Soviet Union and the West has reduced much of the world to a barren wasteland. The war continues, however, among the scattered remains of humanity. The Western forces have recently developed "claws", which are autonomous self-replicating robots, to fight on their side. It is one of Dick's many stories in which nuclear war has rendered the Earth's surface uninhabitable.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Second Variety?
Nice surprise ending
Any additional comments?
Better than most PKD short stories. Another well done vision of a dystopiac, post-nuclear holocaust world. The ending was slightly predictable, but good nonetheless.
