The protagonist comes across as a whiny, weak, annoying woman. I found her, and the story, so distasteful I couldn't finnish it.

It is a cold January morning, and Shetland lies beneath a deep layer of snow. Trudging home, Fran Hunter's eye is drawn to a splash of color on the frozen ground, ravens circling above. It is the strangled body of her teenage neighbor, Catherine Ross. The locals on the quiet island stubbornly focus their gaze on one man - loner and simpleton Magnus Tait.

Historia
Sebastian Orwell did the only thing a smart wizard could do when he stumbled upon the wounded Crown Prince: He healed him and dumped him in a tavern where he could continue not being Sebastian's problem. Unfortunately, the prince isn't content with being alive, and he hunts Sebastian down to thank him personally. Not only is Sebastian stuck with the prince's unwanted affections, but he's also confronted by growing evidence linking the assassination attempt to someone from his father's past.

The performers did a fine job - nothing wrong with that. I just thought the story itself was unappealing. In fact I didn't even finish it.

Great Book
Revisado: 10-09-16
Where does The Revenant rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's certainly up there at the top.
What did you like best about this story?
It's pretty faced paced. The life that the main character leads is amazing. One obstacle after another is set in his path and yet somehow he finds a way to overcome them.
Have you listened to any of Holter Graham’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but he did a superb job with all the characters in this book. He was really able to convey emotion and gave each character a unique voice. He was excellent!
Who was the most memorable character of The Revenant and why?
Hugh Glass, but Jim Bridger was a close second for me and, although limited, I enjoyed the interaction between them.
Any additional comments?
I'm usually not that interested in historical novels as a genre, especially ones set in the western frontier of the early 1800s, but I immediately took to the characters and found there lives fascinating. Also, Michael Punke's writing is very good. He conjures description and expresses ideas in such an elegant way that the writing, in and of itself, is a joy to hear.

You Miscalculated Bob!
Revisado: 09-20-16
What would have made Calculating God better?
More action. More suspense. It was just boring ... and mildly depressing.
Would you ever listen to anything by Robert J. Sawyer again?
Probably not.
Any additional comments?
I confess, I didn't finish the book. I got about 2/3 of the way through before I felt like I was wasting too much of my life waiting for this book to get good. The book just did not have enough action, or suspense, or anything approaching excitementt for me. If you like science, and are intrigued by the interplay/antagonism between science and faith, you might find this book interesting, but don't count on it. I think you're more likely to find it depressing.

Wayward Pines Trilogy
Revisado: 03-16-16
Any additional comments?
This review is really for the whole trilogy, not just the first book. I just really recommend it to everyone. The plotting is so dynamic and suspenseful and the author is so adept at creating these vivid, multidimensional characters that really bring the story to life. The good characters are definitely flawed, but this almost makes you like them more and although the bad characters are pretty bad, there are aspects of their nature that lead you to believe they could have been something better. In fact, at times, with one in particular, I found myself pulling for him, wanting him to have what he wanted. Anyway, it's a great story. Well worth your time and money. Oh, and the narrator is AMAZING! He can do male voices, female voices, kids ... he is very talented! Highly, highly, recommend it.

Nestled amid picture-perfect mountains, the idyllic town is a modern-day Eden - except for the electrified fence and razor wire, snipers scoping everything 24/7, and the relentless surveillance tracking each word and gesture. None of the residents know how they got here. They are told where to work, how to live, and who to marry. Some believe they are dead. Others think they're trapped in an unfathomable experiment.
