Historia
If, like Kane, you're a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again - by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide - and when to shoot. But some places don't play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane's experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan meet are such a place - a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Good first half and then rubbish
Revisado: 01-18-25
What the hell was this? The first half was excellent in the same vein as the first book THEN everything changed except for the characters. Out of the blue it became a science fiction story but quite incredulous. I stopped listening with 6 hours to go. There was absolutely no continuity from the first half to the second half. Cloaked missiles, cloaked submarine, spores from out of space, time travel etc etc. It was like he ran out of ideas and gave it to someone else to finish!

Just brilliant

I could not do justice to any review. The writing, the story and the narration were just the best.

Historia
A series of apparently random murders draws amiable, old-school Detective Mick Matlock into a world of sex, politics, reality TV and a bewildering kaleidoscope of opposing identity groups. Lost in a blizzard of hashtags, his already complex investigation is further impeded by the fact that he simply doesn’t ‘get’ a single thing about anything anymore. Meanwhile, each day another public figure confesses to having ‘misspoken’ and prostrates themselves before the judgment of Twitter. Begging for forgiveness, assuring the public 'that is not who I am'.

Repetitive

Usually like Ben Elton’s books. This one has a gender/sex theme repeated ad nauseam. Could only listen to the first two to three hours.

Historia
Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead. Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply.

Not a lot of action. If Readers Digest did an abridged version there would not be a lot left of the book! I found it a bit disappointing. Narrator very good as always.

I stopped well short of finishing
Revisado: 02-17-23
Stopped a quarter through. Up till then I found it quite good if a little repetitive. Then lost interest. What happened to the man from taured and the other guy who lost his wife in the store?
Narrator was average. Perhaps another narrator could have improved things.

Putting aside the narrator’s annoying voice, I was enjoying the book till around chapter 21 when it all got a bit silly when the immortals and their rules entered the plot. Couldn’t listen anymore.

Historia
Every modern city has one week’s worth of food to feed itself. Then it will collapse. Cut off the resources to New York, Sydney, or even a mid-size metropolis, and millions will soon starve. In Zero Day Code we see those immense and open, hyper-complex, networked supercities of the new millennium die. And in the last moments we see their vengeance take form as all the best and worst traits of humanity bubble to the surface.

Rupert Degas does a brilliant narration with an incredible array of voices and accents adding another dimension to an interesting story about a realistic demise of our present civilisation initiated by China.

Historia
I played all those cool video games. I watched all those movies. I even read the books. In most of 'em, the hero shoots the bad guys, drives a sweet car, never gets hungry, and always seems to get laid by the end. Yeah. Whatever. I gotta be straight with you about why I wrote this journal, and it comes down to one thing, the apocalypse kinda sucks. It doesn’t meet my expectations at all.

Nowhere near as good as The Last Survivors
Revisado: 02-21-21
Having listened to the last survivors and enjoyed it, I was hoping for this sort of prequel to also be good. Instead I turned off after 2 hours. The constant ranting and raving by the main character was excessive, as was the need to have to define what words and terms meant for the benefit of the evolved intelligent bees that were going to read his diary a million years hence. Also the constant use of shroomheads and other similar descriptions became very wearing.

Can be frustrating
Revisado: 02-17-21
If you enjoy books where you find you are shouting ‘ no don’t go there’ ,’no don’t touch that’, ‘no, no, no’........then this book is for you. I personally became so frustrated with the idiocy of everyone’s actions I nearly came close to giving up.
