Setting things up.

This book does a nice job of setting things up for the next part of the saga. It's a little slow and ponderous but thats just me.

Overrated

Alarm bells should have been raised about the Culture series for me when in the at least two decades the series has had to seep into pop culture that I've never heard any praise heaped on its stories. Turns out there is a reason for that. Scenery porn and verbal diarrhea dominates this work. No likeable characters anywhere and plodding pacing makes this writing as fascinating as listening to paint drying maybe even constituting a form or audible torture. The only hint at redeeming quality in this work was the narrator who brought his best to book but even his delightful skill couldn't save this dumpster fire of book from going into the annals of obscurity. Save yourself the trouble and read a wiki about this series. It's more interesting.

A Rare Insight

Here we get to delve a little into the mind of Frank Herbert and his ideas around parts of his opus, Dune. If you were ever curious what the man would sound like reading excerpts of his own work and commenting on it then look no further.

A Story to Drown In

A true sequel to Dune, God Emperor of Dune is not afraid to turn everything we had known before on its head while staying true to the spirit of the original.

The Story Concludes and Continues?

Not as novel in the format it tells itself in as Hyperion the story is good however I miss the performers from the first book with only the overall narrator from the first book still here. He does a remarkable job though and I give him full props. But still minus one star for the absence. I look forward to the next part in this story.

One of the Bests for a Reason.

I was a bit worried when I started this book by the references to other works but in the end the story could survive the numerous Google searches and still impressed me to no end.
