Amazing
Revisado: 09-23-21
it was really difficult to get into the book to start with, with its rapid fire style but once I did, I relished the word, sentence, paragraph hapters. Each so powerful in the brevity and punching sentiments... this book is not for everyone, but having lived in the Middle East for 12 years, there were parts that were so saddly familiar ... its an appalling situation and no end in site.

I took ages to listen to this book because the sound effects were so grating but I got there in the end and enjoyed it.

Henry Bins is only awake one hour a day. Can you imagine only being awake for one hour each day? Can you imagine having to cram your entire existence into sixty measly minutes? Two minutes to shower. Three minutes to eat. Five minutes to watch TV. And in that 3600 seconds you have awake, imagine that you have to figure out...Who murdered the woman across the street?

Even though the plot lines are a bit naff... its a fun listen. I walked through kilometres of bushland, thoroughly entertained on my walk. I loved the conversations with Lassie best.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Historia
Throughout history, women have played integral roles in family, society, religion, government, war - in short, in all aspects of human civilization. Their contributions have often shaped history and shifted the axis of power for later generations of women. And yet, unearthing their stories from the historical record has often been a challenge. In Powerful Women of the Medieval World, Professor Dorsey Armstrong will introduce you to 10 amazing women who played vital roles in the Middle Ages.

You’ll also learn how he invented the detective story and explored themes of love and loss in such poems as “Ulalume” and “Annabel Lee”. And you’ll discover how Poe employed symbolism, imagery, rhythm and rhyme, irony and paradox, repetition, simile, and foreshadowing to create a unique body of work.

Historia
Art critic Jeremy Grove is found dead, his face frozen in a mask of terror. His body temperature is grotesquely high; he is discovered in a room barricaded from the inside; the smell of brimstone is everywhere... and the unmistakable imprint of a claw is burned into the wall. As more bodies are discovered - their only connection the bizarre but identical manner of death - the world begins to wonder if the Devil has, in fact, come to collect his due.

Enjoying the series from a history perspective. Well written, great characters, and a sense of how the lives of people during this era were. Makes me feel so grateful for the freedoms we enjoy today (at least in the western world).

Historia
A huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London.

Love a good historical fiction book
Revisado: 07-10-15
It does us well to recall the sheer stupidity of the 1st world war, which seems to achieved nothing for the advancement of humanity. The characters were lifelike and believable. If not their precise story, than one very close I am sure. The book is beautifully narrated in my view. I really enjoyed it and am so pleased this is a series. Assume the next one will be the events leading to the 2nd world war and beyond - not that I relish this era of history but it does me well to remember the huge sacrifices that were given by men and women to ensure a free world
