Historia
The theory that Shakespeare may not have written the works that bear his name is the most horrible, unspeakable subject in the history of English literature. Scholars admit that the Bard’s biography is a “black hole,” yet to publicly question the identity of the god of English literature is unacceptable, even (some say) “immoral.” In Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies, journalist and literary critic Elizabeth Winkler sets out to probe the origins of this literary taboo.

Excellent
Revisado: 05-28-23
This book was wonderful. I recommended it to half a dozen people before I even finished it.
While it's primarily a book about who wrote Shakespeare, it's also a book about bias, psychology, peer pressure, and orthodoxy in academia. The historical information about Shakespeare's contemporaries was fascinating, and Elizabeth Winkler made me fall a bit in love with Edward DeVere and Christopher Marlowe.
What I found most interesting was the way that some of the academics disagreed through insults. Accusing someone of being crazy isn't an argument against their position. It's just rude. And if they are resorting to rudeness, it makes their position look weak.

Delightful
Revisado: 05-06-20
I don't listen to a lot of fiction, but this was delightful. So funny. I don't think it's the kind of thing I would listen to twice, but I finished it in one sitting.

This audiobook is packed with good information. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the audible version even though I had already listened to it for free from my library app. There's just too much good info to unpack in a couple weeks.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS AUDIO BOOK WHILE DRIVING OR CLEANING!
Normally, I like audiobooks for these specific activities, but this one is too packed with info and I restarted the book so I could take notes and really concentrate on the information.
I'm glad to get this info directly from the author's mouth, but it's not an awesome reading, and the material is pretty dry. But it's dry because the info is so useful and squeezed in so tightly. Honestly, this could have been dissected into 3 or 4 books of the same length if he had included the fluff that most authors do.

Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

I really enjoyed this. It isn't the sort of thing I would normally listen to, but the stories of all these people, each dealing with their own traumas, coming together and finding peace through friendship and nature helped me feel a sort of peace myself.

TERRIBLE
Revisado: 09-12-19
I don't usually leave negative reviews... But, This book contains no useful content at all. I don't know where the "14 days" part comes in, because nothing like that is even mentioned once. This is nothing but a summary of things every person with ADHD already knows, and there are no useful strategies given at all. In fact, 80% of this book is about ADHD in children, not adults. You will get the exact same knowledge about this disorder by reading the Wikipedia page. I kept waiting for the summary of the disorder to end and the actual content to start, but it just never did. When I got to the last chapter, I expected to get SOMETHING like what the description suggested, but NOPE. The last chapter is actually an excerpt from another book that isn't even about ADHD.
I am actually going to file a complaint with audible about this title.

Enthralling
Revisado: 06-25-19
I don't know why I chose this audiobook. It's not the kind of thing I would normally listen to, but I really enjoyed it. I finished it in less than 24 hours. The characters were vivid and their problems were enthralling. I can't even remember why I couldn't stop listening, but I do remember that I found the author's words beautiful and the narrator's performance authentic.

I LOVE THIS!
Revisado: 06-12-19
I have never been one to read news papers or watch tv, but as soon as I started listening to the New York Times on Audible, I was addicted. Now I download and listen to it every morning while I'm getting ready and eating breakfast. I even miss it on the weekend.
I hope Audible considers bringing in more content like this. I think I would love to listen to magazines as well... and that would give me something to listen to on Saturday. ;)

Finally, a housekeeping and organizational system developed for those of us who'd describe our current living situation as a "f--king mess" that we "really need to get around to fixing one day". Unf--k Your Habitat is for anyone who has been left behind by traditional aspirational systems - the ones that ignore single people with full-time jobs, people without kids but living with roommates, and people with mental illnesses or physical limitations. Most organizational books are aimed at stay-at-home moms and people who seem to have unimaginable amounts of free time.

It Works
Revisado: 08-18-17
I saw a few bad reviews of this audio book, so I almost didn't pick it up, but I do love the ufyh blog, so I thought I'd give it a shot. THEN I saw it was narrated by Emily Woo Zeller, who also narrated another self-help-for-messy-people book in my library, and I was sold. Zeller has an engaging voice, and I really enjoy her readings.
But the ultimate test of a self-help book is whether or not it initiated any change in attitude or behavior. And this one did.
I actually cleaned stuff! I cleaned lots of stuff. I did like five loads of laundry, folded it, and the put it away! (I know you don't know me, but if you did, you would be flabbergasted)
Are you going to learn a magical secret that will make cleaning happen like magic? No. But when have you ever heard anything in a self-help book that you didn't already know?
What you will get is a friendly slap on the back of the head that WILL help you start dealing with your clutter and mess in a positive, healthy way, and if you're looking for a book on how to clean your house, that's what you really need, isn't it?
I highly recommend listening to this audio book while you clean. It kept me engaged and giggling through what would have otherwise been a horrible process.
