Highly imaginative but disappointing ending.
Revisado: 04-30-25
I found this story captivating at first but the longer I listened the harder it was to follow. There were too many characters, too many ideas. I feel it could have used some editing. The characters that were the best met bad endings or turned out not to be real. And it was very far fetched and unbelievable. But it had a lot of good things about it to like being suspenseful and it kept you wondering what was going to happen next.

Excellent Short Story. Well Done Narration.

It moved along at a fast pace, was suspenseful and thought provoking. Reminded me of The Substance which I had just watched the night previous. It kept those creepy vibes going.

Historia
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Almost Good.
Revisado: 02-25-25
The characters in this story were well drawn but the book fell apart at the end. It’s as if the author said let me put so many twists that make no sense in the book and that will make it more interesting. Sadly it just made the book unsatisfying and unbelievable and insulting. The ending was such a let down I will be sure and never read a book by this author again. I’m glad it was free.

Struggling artist Skyler Moore is flabbergasted when she receives a suspicious phone call from a lawyer she’s never met regarding a “private matter.” As soon as she arrives at the law firm’s office, she learns she’s the recipient of a large inheritance, a life-changing sum that will allow her to realize her long-held dream of becoming a mother. But who was her benefactor, Christopher Whaley? The late man’s name means nothing to Skyler, and she has no idea why he would leave her such an enormous bequest.

Not My Sisters Keeper, would be a better title. Entertaining, Well Written, Far Fetched.
Revisado: 12-04-24
I liked the whole angle of being left a fortune by someone unknown. Who doesn’t have that fantasy? I liked the artist storyline and interesting characters. The ending was unpredictable and that’s because it wasn’t plausible. Why would anyone be rewarded for not looking after their sister by a total stranger?

I liked everything about this story right down to the narrator. The characters were rich and complex. The story was intriguing, kept me up well into the night. This is not your typical who done it. The writing was so elevated and beautiful. Glad I found this book. Highly recommended!!!! And finally a writer who knows how to write an ending. Thank you.

Historia
Our new home was supposed to be a chance to leave our past behind. But was moving here the worst mistake of our lives? All our friends and family were gathered, glasses raised to toast our fresh start. It should have been a night for happiness and celebration. Zac and I had worked so hard for this: our first home together, just minutes from the sea. But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare.

It started out great ended with a fizzle.
Revisado: 08-08-24
It had a great start, it captured your interest but the characters had no natural curiosity. Didn’t follow up on clues. Just went to bed or fought with each other. Could have been so much better. They were so weak. They couldn’t put 2 and 2 together until everything was explained to them at the end. Not very satisfying. I find it a little hard to believe people so successful could be so stupid, so I had a hard time suspending my disbelief which is really needed to make a book remarkable. It is ridiculous to imagine anyone would believe the lies of people they just met rather than their girlfriend of five years. Every character in the book was so unreal. It’s just not plausible and not plausible that a person would just forgive them after that. Weak women don’t interest me much, weak men even less. Dumb ending.

Absolutely Fascinating!!! Great writing!!✍️
Revisado: 03-05-24
I learned so many things about archaeology, politics, dinosaurs, history, current events, people… I was held spellbound from beginning to end. Wish there were more books like this. I learned a lot about the author too who is a favorite of mine. I found myself stopping reading to learn more about each mystery that was discussed. That’s the sign of a great book, it makes you want to learn more and inspires you. It made me want to go on a dig and also that I went on one in my mind. Bravo Douglas Preston. Write another please!!🙏

Join David as he encounters his eccentric Aunt Betsey, faithful Peggotty and the villainous Uriah Heep, and as he falls in love with Little Em'ly, Dora and Agnes. And then there is old school friend James Steerforth: dashing, daring and seductive. This dramatisation explores the complexities and intimacies of that relationship beyond anything possible in Dickens' day, in an adaptation giving fresh life and vividness to this beloved tale.

Historia
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Rubbish!!!
Revisado: 12-02-23
This story was complete rubbish! The build up was great, you’re waiting for some great ending that will tie the whole thing together. Like maybe Charlie pushed Clare in a fit of temper. Or maybe Clare is the shadowy figure stalking around entrapped by her greedy parents but no they bring in some characters at the end that hardly had anything to do with story. The ending is unreal, preposterous and implausible. I think they are just churning these books out now. Kinda like Goosebumps for adults. Don’t waste your time unless you’re desperate. It was free after all.

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Revisado: 11-23-23
It was very good at first very intriguing but then it just turned cookie cutter at the end. Impossible to believe a woman would put her children in such harms way. And to bring her sister in at the end made no logic sense. No big surprises here. I’m glad it was free.
