okay, same issues as the first book! the FLC is as dumb as a box of rocks and goesnout of her way to put herself and everyone else in danger! the older bother cannot apologize to his youngest brother, or hold his anger anymore than the younger brother can! this family makes it hard to like any of them. not sure why I'm even listening at this point other than trying to dredge on through. I seriously want to bash everyone's heads together and give them all a time out for a solid several years until they can learn to behave more like adults than bickering and acting so naive.

Mixed feelings

I have to agree with other reviews about this book....it is not plausible that, for the era, this kind of life would have ever happened. in addition to that, the FL was naive and most of the time downright stupid and made me want to shake her neck! she had zero sense of self preservation for anyone! It killed the story for that reason which is why I cannot give this a rating higher than 3 stars.

Good plot and storyline

I enjoyed the overall plot and premise of the story and the developments. I did get a bit annoyed at how often the main female "had tears in her eyes" and the almost husky quality of the narrator got a biiiit grating at times to me. It came off as way to emotional! I was hoping for a bit more "creep", and that was lost to me due to the narrator and the overall constant emotional state the main character seemed to be in. I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars due to that.

Interesting story, annoying narrator

I started it and had to stop several times before completing it because the voice the narrator used just didn't work for me. It sounded so weak and shaky all the time for the main character, I simply couldn't fully enjoy the story! It could have been an interesting tale if I had been able to get past the narrator. I ended up skipping several parts just due to that!

My favorite book by Coates!!!

I love this book! it was my first book I listened to by her and it's, to date, still my favorite so far! I love the characters, the audio reading and the plot! 10/10 for me!

Okay for a boring day

I love Darcy Coates usually, but this one definitely isn't my favorite book by her. I spent more time being annoyed at the main character poking and snooping and breaking things (mind you breaking down locked doors is NOT cool in my book) in a house she's supposed to be taking care of than anything. I mean, why was she hired again if that's all she's doing in the personal lives of other people? If that factor hadn't been how the majority of what she got into was found out and all, I think I could have enjoyed it much more. I have no great love of busybodies though, nor of nosy people who can't mind their own business when doing a job. It was okay otherwise, but due to the nature of the main character, I wasn't so sure I was rooting for her anymore halfway through. I wouldn't listen again to this one. I did manage to finish it at least.

Okay, I might have enjoyed this book more with a different narrator. I listened for a few chapters and it finally became to much for me! I already wasn't a fan of the main character, but the narration completed my total dislike for this book and the main character and her personality unfortunately. I ended up skipping to the end just because I couldn't stand to listen anymore but I wanted to know who did it! *sigh* Oh well, on the hunt again for a good Christmas cozy novel that I can enjoy.

Now this is a page-turner!

Absolutely loved this story! it was well written and hid some good truths in the story as well. loved the fact that it was based on a true legend and happening! not your typical ghost story, but it us intensely thought provoking and held my attention for the entire book. that is a rare combination for me. I give this 5 stars all the way!

narrator killed the story

okay. honestly if the narrator read any slower, I'd have napped! seriously, it was a cute story, but I didn't enjoy it at all because the narration was so freaking slow! good grief!! killed a perfectly good story with bad narration.
