Historia
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 11-26-23
Found this rec from a finance bro on TikTok. As a finance bro myself I was cautiously interested and had a credit…
Anyway it’s just a nice little book. A bit of history, economics, some pop psych. Cohesive and relevant, yet 2020 was a different time. It’s already such a different economic landscape from the good old days.
Still, a nice little book.

Historia
War and Peace is at once an epic war chronicle and an exploration of everything that make us all human: love and hate, ambition and despair, life and death. Allow yourself to get lost in the lives of three Russian aristocratic families, whose triumphs and challenges are every bit as resonant to today’s listener as they were to original readers. Thandiwe Newton inhabits each character with such flair that it is easy to forget that you are listening to one voice.

Doesn’t follow the book
Revisado: 06-10-23
I thought this was going to be a reading of the book. It’s a play, not an audiobook. I like to listen to audiobooks and follow along on a physical copy, but that’s not possible. This is not War & Peace. And the narrator is annoying.

Historia
Drawing from her work as a psychoanalyst and cantadora (keeper of old stories), Dr. Estes uses myths and folktales to illustrate how societies systematically strip away the feminine spirit. Through an exploration into the nature of the wild woman archetype, Dr. Estes helps listeners rediscover and free their own wild nature.

Did I cry through most of this? Yes
Revisado: 05-11-23
Do I feel the compulsion to send it to every woman I have ever met?
Also yes.
Listened at 1.7x and there were still SOOO many lengthy pauses but the content is superb and philosophical.

Historia
Charles Sanders Peirce is perhaps the greatest philosophical mind to emerge from the United States. He was hugely influential on William James, Alfred North Whitehead, and many other eminent thinkers. This small volume includes two famous essays by Peirce, "The Fixation of Belief" and "Questions Concerning Certain Faculties Claimed for Man." Also included is a short, intellectual biography of Peirce which focuses on his many contributions to science and philosophy. Chosen and very slightly edited by Professor David Christopher Lane, PhD.

Narration was choppy, Pierce is wonderful
Revisado: 10-03-21
The narrator was choppy so the flow of the thoughts was not translated in the reading aloud. The author is indisputably genius and a fascinating and in o stove logician, and this work of his knots approached Bergsons philosophy. In fact I’d take them both together, not as equals, but equally fascinating.
