Historia
The star of Parks and Recreation and author of the New York Times best seller Paddle Your Own Canoe returns with a second book that humorously highlights 21 figures from our nation’s history, from her inception to present day - Nick’s personal pantheon of “great Americans". After the great success of his autobiography, Paddle Your Own Canoe, Offerman now focuses on the lives of those who inspired him. From George Washington to Willie Nelson, he describes 21 heroic figures and why they inspire in him such great meaning.

More ivory tower b.s.
Revisado: 11-29-20
Nick Offerman, having played the part of an enthusiastic lover of liberty in his well known t.v. show, is nevertheless only that: an actor.
He showed his true colors as a typical Hollywood type in his spewing forth of white guilt propaganda. The message coming from his woodworking shop is rendered all but moot due to the fact that the shop is nestled comfortably in an ivory tower.
Further, his abject ignorance of the true intent of the Second Amendment only propogated the false notion that an individual does not have the right to bear arms. The founding fathers knew that a nation's own government could not be trusted and explicitly stated the individual's inherent right to protect him/herself. This is a matter of liberty and taking responsibility for one's own defense, not of race as Nick would have you believe.
Regardless of my political disagreement with a mere 5 minutes of writing, I rather liked the book. It was a colorful and entertaining perspective of American history. Had he not gone on a diatribe which highlighted his ignorance of the Bill of Rights, the review would have been 5 stars. Disagreeing with him on one point is not enough for me to completely discard what was clearly a lot of work and historical research. I may listen again sometime in the future and simply skip through the brief portions with which I disagree.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

touching and informative
Revisado: 10-08-19
the only issue I had with this was the audio. the producers did a very poor job of matching the volume of recorded conversation to the narration of the story.
otherwise, I found myself feeling very emotional. my grandfather fought on guadalcanal, which was something my father didn't know about until after he died from leukemia. so much of his service is a mystery to us all, but we know he fought there and witnessed horrific things. this almost felt like it was a book about him.

an eye-opening book
Revisado: 08-20-19
this book has genuinely opened my eyes to the existence and dangers of chronic traumatic brain injury and will certainly impact the decisions I make regarding my children's involvement in sports where head impacts are common.
not only was it educational, but it was also powerfully emotional as Lorraine Astol recalled details of her husband's condition. I was moved to tears and I pray my family never has to endure that kind of pain.
give this book a listen. you will not be disappointed.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

philosophical, thought-provoking, irreverent
Revisado: 07-27-19
this book was an easy, fun, enjoyable listen. it made me really look deep inside myself and my motivations. it is unfortunate that the ones who need to read it the most are in the category of people too easily offended by the foul language contained herein, or are so convinced of their own enlightenment that they need not waste their time with it.
every person on the planet needs to read this book.

Historia
Too many of us feel trapped by work that doesn't allow us to live our purpose, feed our passions, or use our gifts. We fantasize about starting our own business, but we're told this will mean going deeply into debt, spending years working 80 hours a week, and coping with the relentless pressure to grow. Eco-Bags founder Sharon Rowe says there's another way: go tiny. She is here to show you how. Tiny isn't a size - it's a state of mind. Like a tiny house, a tiny business is built on maintaining a laser focus on what is absolutely essential to you.

inspirational, but not informational
Revisado: 07-24-19
this is a good starter book for budding entrepreneurs to listen to so they can guide their future in a direction that aligns with their morals. But as far as nitty-gritty explanations go, this book is deficient.
this is for someone just starting off or thinking about starting off, not someone who is already committed and has done lots of research on the development of a business.

Historia
In Way of the Warrior Kid, Marc went from wimp to warrior in one summer. He learned to be strong inside and out, mastered his multiplication tables, conquered his fear of swimming, and even made nice with the meanest kid on the playground (who turned out to be not so mean after all). Now, in this second audiobook in the middle grade Warrior Kid series, Marc uses what he learned last summer to help another kid who needs a boost. Can he take the skills he learned from his Navy SEAL uncle Jake to instill the warrior spirit in someone who needs his help?

great story, cant wait to listen to it w/ my kids!
Revisado: 07-19-19
while there were some editing issues, really only a handful, this was an excellent and heartwarming story that I ant wait to share with my two kids. the first book got them interested in the warrior path, and I think this one will seal the deal. we'll be making our own warrior code, inspired by these books.
Jocko Wilink and Leif Babin have been instrumental in my own personal and professional development, and I genuinely appreciate this means to make what I've learned relatable to my young children.

Beautiful story, truly a pleasure
Revisado: 03-22-19
The only issue I have with this title is that it was so short. I wanted more; that was how lovely and touching the story was. The accuracy is not something to which I can attest, not being an expert on Madame Curie's life, but even if there were some poetic liberties taken, I'm okay with it.
The narration was good; a couple minor editing issues (resulting in small tonal changes in the narrator's voice) were, at worst, mildly and temporarily distracting.
Excellent title, and I'm glad I listened to it. The not-so-subtle message of female empowerment and equality (particularly in scientific endeavours) makes me want to let my 8 year old daughter listen to it, to sharpen her boldness and desire to excel.
