Horror Porn
Revisado: 01-22-23
A tale of scary porn if you’re into that sort of thing. Very descriptive scenes of sex and debauchery peppered with dark humor.

Even at her birth, the slave women around her recognize a dark power that they - and she - will come to both revere and fear. Emotionally Evoking
Revisado: 12-18-22
This book was beautifully written and executed. I was transported back in time to the plantation and imagined enduring the trials of the women in the pages. The author captured the geographical locations of Jamaica adding dimension to the unfolding story. The narrators voice was strong with undertones of amber woodiness, making the words easy to digest on the ear. As a Jamaican woman, I would have appreciated the dialect of certain words be pronounced correctly. Authenticity is paramount and and is the corner stone makings of a good story. Excellent read, at ones own risk. Happy listening👋🏾🤭

Not my favorite novel
Revisado: 06-09-20
This book was different from the books that I have read from Dean Koontz. I did enjoy the narration by Karen Peakes. She did an excellent job with portraying the story and multifaceted characters. However the book lacked in depth, the depth that I normally enjoy in a Koontz novel. There was not much left to ponder as he created a normal vanilla scary story. I normally enjoy how he paints vivid images in my mind and takes me to places in and out of the imaginative ether but with this book, I never left my room as I waited for the climax and resolution to come and go. 😒

This book was overall a decent read. I only gave 3 stars because I personally found it difficult to get lost in the book like I usually do.

Short and Spicy
Revisado: 12-27-19
I loved this read. It gave me a light feathery satisfaction as I followed Nameless on his journey to right the wrongs in his society. The story was elegantly told which allowed me to immerse myself in the paint brush strokes Koontz uses to depict this story.

Very cookie cutter 🍪
Revisado: 12-27-19
🍪 This is your average Joe Blow run of the mill psychological thriller. As I read I could piece together the plot before the main charactors did. When I am able to do this when reading a book, it fails to re capture my attention there on out. 🍪 🍪

Not my favorite read
Revisado: 12-27-19
Although the main characters are fully developed and the story told as an intricately woven tale, Koontz must have realized he was behind schedule and needed to wrap the book up. The ending could have been better. It seemed rushed and there was no satisfaction with how the protagonist and antagonists interact if there was even a final confrontation, I don't remember.

Fast paced thrill ride
Revisado: 10-14-19
This was a very thrilling read. My attention was grabbed from the very beginning all the way until the end. The charactor development was well rounded and the narrator did an excellent job of voicing through each charactor. The main charactors were likeable except Alisha. I couldn't get past the fact she was weak and passive the whole book, apparently so... All in all a really good read if you're on a budget and looking for a decent page turner.

This story was well written, executed perfectly by the narraror and kept me interested. This would fall under a cozy mystery for me. There was suspense but not enough for me to think about days after finishing the book. A nice uncomplicated read.
