Historia
Booker T. Washington fought his way out of slavery to become an educator, statesman, political shaper, and proponent of the "do-it-yourself" idea. In his autobiography, he describes his early life as a slave on a Virginia plantation, his steady rise during the Civil War, his struggle for education, his schooling at the Hampton Institute, and his years as founder and president of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, which was devoted to helping minorities learn useful, marketable skills.

Narrator doesn't do it justice
Revisado: 04-15-22
I can't finish this book. thr narrator does not do it justice. it was such and important read to me, and though I got b through a few chapters, I am losing something due to the narration. I feel like I'm listening to announcement, or prescription side effects. I also feel like I'm being yelled at, no matter the volume. Both Audiobooks com and Scribd have better narrations of this important book. I will have to go there.

Historia
One of the first personal narratives written by an ex-slave, this is also one of the few written by a woman. Harriet Jacobs (1813-97) was enslaved, along with her family, in North Carolina under a ruthless master who sexually harassed her. After several failed escape attempts, and several years of hiding, she finally made her way North to freedom, where she was eventually reunited with her children. The book was published in 1861.

Hard but necessary read!
Revisado: 04-12-22
I say it's a hard read because hearing the things that happened to African Americans is so hurtful and horrible to listen to. I find much of the time I'm in shock or angry or both. But it's a necessary read, so that we never repeat the horrible history, and so we can understand what it these people were put through. I'm thankful she finally got her freedom and for her writing her account so we can see the wrongs committed by the person they were committed on.

Historia
Hailed as one of the Great American Novels, The Great Gatsby delves into the dark corners of the Jazz Age to tell a tragic tale of obsession, love, and the gritty underbelly of the American dream. Through the eyes of unassuming narrator Nick Carraway, the story follows the enigmatic Jay Gatsby as he chases the object of his hopeless desire, the beautiful Daisy Buchanan.

Tanner Buchanan is one of the best Narrators!
Revisado: 02-25-22
Tanner Buchanan makes an already great story that much better.
I'm not a big fan of audiobooks. I prefer to hold a book in my hand and see the words. I have become so busy that sitting down to read has become a luxury that I often can't afford. As such, I have delved into the world of audiobooks, and I have been disappointed multiple times. Immediately upon hearing Tanner's voice you are drawn in. His voice is soothing yet keeps you engaged and is distinct of each character in the book. I have not enjoyed another audio book as much as I have has this one and will likely listen again. I hope to hear him narrate many more.
If you have not listened to this version of The Great Gatsby I urge you to do so. You will not find a better version. If you have not read or listened to The Great Gatsby I urge you to do that in any fashion. It is an engaging and sad story of lost love.
